Description

Neil Young is known around the world as one of Canada's greatest musical artists. His vast, diverse songbook and long, influential career have made him a unique figure in the history of rock. In his adopted United States, Young provokes audiences to adoration and fury in about equal measure with his immense talent and outspoken politics. In a deeply honest and revealing book, his half-sister, Astrid Young, gives us an intimate portrait of the private man behind the public performer. Taking up where their father, journalist Scott Young's 1984 book Neil and Me left off, Astrid offers a fresh perspective on a cultural icon. She also examines her own life and career, shining a sometimes brutal light on the tensions and joys of her relationship with her older brother. In Being Young, she explores the events and motivations that shaped their family, drove it apart, and eventually brought all the Youngs back together as the people they are today. Neil Young has had a life and career that are unprecedented in the music industry, and Being Young will give readers a privileged, insider's look at the man and the people and issues that matter the most to him. We see the rocker as a loving husband and father, as an environmental and anti-war activist, and most of all as a survivor. This new edition contains an additional chapter, bringing the reader up to date with Astrid's and Neil's lives and allowing the author to reflect further on the events that shaped this book.
