Description

You are a student (or parent of a student) who is being bullied or harassed by other students at your school. Snide comments, nasty rumors, "eye-rolling" by these people, as well as others around you, have all become part of your life. Or maybe you are being treated badly by a school staff member. You are becoming increasingly depressed and often you do not want to go to school. Now imagine that you've asked for help from the principal. The principal may have indicated a sincere intent to help make things better, but the bullying or harassment has not stopped. Or the principal did try, but this has made things worse and so now you are afraid to ask for help again. Alternatively, you may have heard such comments as: "This isn't bullying." "They were just joking." "You are overreacting." "You just need to learn to deal with it." "If you would stop (describe behavior), this wouldn't happen." All these responses have done is to make you feel worse. You may possibly not need to imagine this scenario because you have been living it. If so, it is most important that you understand that the way you are being treated is not okay and needs to stop. You have a right to feel safe at school, not be treated badly by others, to receive an education, and to fully participate in school activities. Things can be done to help to make things better. While things may seem tough now, you have the power to get through this and build a positive and happy future. Be Positively Powerful will provide you with insight and strategies to do this. In Be Positively Powerful you will learn why what schools are doing is not working and what they should be doing. You will learn how this constant bullying is likely harming your brain and how you can take positive steps to stop and remedy this harm. You will learn seven positive strategies that can help you become positively powerful. These seven strategies are: Remain Calm. Keep Your Personal Power. Think Things Through. Make Positive Connections. Reach Out to be Kind. Use Your Strengths. Focus on the Good. You will also learn how to combine the use of these strategies to respond to hurtful incidents and how you might work with other students to foster more positive relations at your school and online. Be Positively Powerful will help you to become positively powerful and achieve happiness and success.
