"One of the greatest Batman stories yet"

The writing and art in this book are superb. Frank Miller does a great job of capturing the essence of Batman's character, while David Mazzuchelli's composition and style perfectly fit the book's tone. Over 20 years after it's original debut and this book is still one of the greatest Batman stories ever told.

"Batman Begins.... kind of..."

You can definantly tell where the writers for Batman Begins got their inspiration from. While that origin movie focused on Bruce Wayne and his transformation to Batman, Year One is more of a Comissioner Gordon and Gotham City corruption story. Not saying that as a criticism, i think it give more of the story and gives Batman more of reason to exsist

There are no word in English or any other language for that matter of fact, that will do justice to this comic. Great place to start for new batman fans.

A new deluxe trade paperback edition of one of the most important and critically acclaimed Batman adventures ever, written by Frank Miller, author of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, and recounting the early beginnings of Bruce Wayne, and how he came to be one of the greatest superheroes of all time---Batman.

In addition to telling the entire dramatic story of Batman's first year fighting crime, this collection includes reproductions of original pencils, promotional art, script pages, unseen David Mazzucchelli Batman art and more.

Lieutenant James Gordon takes up a new post in the crime-ridden and corrupt city of Gotham, while billionaire Bruce Wayne returns to the scene of his parents' deaths, intent on avenging their memory. Each faces trials and challenges of their own, only for their lives to become irrevocably and potentially tragically intertwined..

"In the late 1980s, DC Comics revamped many superheroes but realized that Batman should remain true to his 1939 history. According to the introduction, the editors also decided that the public needed to know more about Batman's early life as a vigilante, and Miller and Mazzucchelli came together to produce Batman: Year One. Originally released in 1988 in four parts, the stories have been combined into one book. Opening with the arrival of Lieutenant James Gordon in Gotham's police force, the story goes on to inform readers about the level of corruption permeating the force. They also witness Bruce Wayne's first encounter with the prostitute named Selina, who will become Catwoman. Wayne speaks to his dead father, asking for guidance, and is answered with a bat on the windowsill, and Batman is born. The remaining chapters highlight Gordon's continuing difficulties with the corrupt police force, Batman's early difficulties in protecting and using his arsenal of weapons, and the first villains he chooses to pursue. At the end of the book, readers are treated to some background on Mazzucchelli's art, the production of Year One, and details on Richmond Lewis's coloring techniques. Both beginning and devoted Batman fans will enjoy this edition."-Sarah Krygier, School Library Journal
