From Montjuic to the Besos river, the photographs show the result of an urban plan that transformed the city. This project is integrated into Google Maps on a custom map through the link that you will find in the book, where you can see all the photographs and from where they were taken. This book consists of the following parts: Part 1.Port Autonom Part 2. Por VellPart 3. La Barceloneta Part 4. Les Torres-Port Olimpic Part 5. Les Noves Platjes Part 6. Parc del ForumEverything began in 1986 when Barcelona was designated the headquarters of the 1992 Olympic Games. This way, the city was able to carry out the necessary reforms to modernize the city, a reform that was urgent and that was though years ago but did not have the necessary funds for what It would mean the transformation of the city. It was said of Barcelona that he lived with his back to the sea, and it was true. From Montjuic to Sant Adria, there was a barrier formed by some obsolete and abandoned infrastructure and active railways as well that prevented Barcelona's people from reaching the sea. The Port Vell, an obsolete and closed space, fully integrated into the city, it was one of the areas that would have transform, to adapt it to future new public uses. The centennial neighborhood of Barceloneta, characteristic of the more seafaring Barcelona, it had to be renewed, including its boardwalk, the only one in the city, and also eliminate difficult access to the only beach in a city of almost two million habitants. On the other hand, Barcelona could not grow due to lackof land and the only way to do it was to transform the entire coastline, including adjacent neighborhoods according to the new urban order, adjoining neighborhoods with deteriorated and anachronistic facilities of an industrial past like Poblenou. In addition, another more desired project could finally becarried out that would enable more land to grow, and it was that, finally, the Diagonal avenue reached the sea. This great reform needed a totem or icon that reflected the modernization that was taking place and this role was assigned on what was going to be the new skyline of the city, two towers at the end of the Barceloneta's promenade, which simulating two lighthouses, would make the city visible to those who approached by sea. The new marina would be projected at the foot of the towers and another recreational area would be added which would mark the beginning of the new recovered beaches. For the new land that would host the most modern Barcelona, it resorted to an author's urbanization, so the new buildings, including parks, would have signature of prestigious architects. Not only was the city being transformed, it was also being transformed projecting the Barcelona of the 21st century, of the new millennium, in the new land to be developed over the next few years and that would conform a new identity. In the last strip bordering Sant Adria del Besos, it was designed Forum Park, a low maintenance mega constuctrion that topped the city's total coast, a macrospace dedicated to congresses and cultural events, with swimming area and marina. This construction had the task to cover the new treatment plant of waters as well, also included in this project too. This book takes a tour of the entire coastline of the city showing its new spaces, the result of an urban planning performance that meant the total opening of the city to the sea.
