Description

Art In Asia is a comprehensive anthology of the best known and most important scholarship on Asian art history. This unprecedented volume offers a glorious portrait of the rich--and richly diverse---artistic traditions in Japan, Korea, India, and China. Across time periods, media, cultural contexts, and geography, Art in Asia traces several thousand years of Asian art--from Angkor Wat to Chinese art.com. Art in Asia captures the diversity and depth of Asian art through primary documents--from inscriptions and imperial decrees to travelers' accounts and writings by artists. The historiographical essays represent the very best scholarship that has been produced in the field. Conceived first and foremost as a teaching text, the anthology also offers ample introductory material--to each section and individual essays/extracts, enabling the reader to understand the context in which the art emerged. A flexible, chronological organization and generous pedagogical features destine Art in Asia as the definitive text for the field.
