"Overblown travel advertorial for the average 12 year old tourist" Purchased on Mighty Ape

Why is it so hard to find visually stimulating material about the Italian renaissance- I had hoped to find something that at least mentioned some of the more obvious innovations like perspective, the rise of banking, causative factors such as the land based to merchant based power shift… What I got was a lager lout's itinerant musings cobbled together with bland off the wall remarks about the size of Michealangelo's Da­vid's penis. Honestly. What a pile of rubbish.

Description

CLASSICISM

This cultural tour of the world's greatest art galleries and museums takes a close look at the most renowned classical masterpieces. In a trip to Paris' Louvre museum Justine Shapiro also admires Da Vinci's work the famous Mona Lisa. In neighbouring Belgium Katy Haswell marvels at the huge oil on canvas paintings in Ruben's house and studio. Secrets behind the creation of Rembrandts Night Watch in Amsterdam's Rij­ksmuseum are revealed to Jonathan Atherton while in Madrid Adela Ucar observes the Spanish Golden age in paintings by Velazquez and Goya. We end our journey back in Tuscany at the immense Uffizi Gallery home to a staggering number of the world's classic masterpieces.

MODERNISM

In this Globe Guide we observe works by modernist pioneers and the post impressionist movement as well as visiting the latest cosmopolitan installations around the world. Adela Ucar learns about the paintings of Edouard Manet in Paris' Musee d'Orsay while Christina Chang travels to Arles in southern France to a former home of Vincent Van Gogh the world's most famous post impressionist. In Spain Megan McCormick heads the artistic hub of Barcelona and learns about influential modernists Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro and the surrealist Salvador Dali. We end our modernist showcase in up and coming art hot spots around the globe such as Beijing and Indonesia's capital Jakarta. Here Bobby Chinn meets with cutting edge comic political artist Heri Duo who is at the forefront of a movement known as ‘New Internationalism’.
