Thirteen years have elapsed since Parsifal and Shanara's triumphant return with the truth to the Kingdom of Nehemia. During that time, under the expert eye of the mighty Pasadaynian, their young brother Arian excels in his training in the ways of the warrior and is ready for initiation into the service of his kingdom as King's Champion. But a brooding evil seems to be assailing Nehemians and Zennarians. Sudden death, disappearance, and terror sweep down on them from every direction without provocation. In response, the King of Nehemia summons his warlords to craft an approach that would remove the threats to their citizens. Accordingly, Arian embarks on a search for the scourge whose trail leads him to Mykon and thence to Persidia where he joins forces with Zogan the Terrible and meets Glenore, a Kellanite beauty he instantly loves. And there too he encounters the evil of Rumdin, Chieftain of Clan Kellan-the man who holds Nehemian citizens in degrading captivity. With the help of allied warriors, Arian launches a series of relentless campaigns against Rumdin and his mercenaries in attempt to redeem the honor of his people as well as that of the Persidians.
However, undercurrents are as swift as calm waters are treacherous in the Land of Eternal Mist. When Glenore mysteriously vanishes into night and fog, Arian's world seems about to collapse. Fortunately, he remains staunch to the call of duty and brought a spectacular end to Rumdin's reign of terror. In the process, he gets to the heart of a sorrowful matter that seems to leave everyone tainted. But victory leaves Arian somber and empty; and vengeance leaves his heart cold and sorrowful. Knowing that the enemy behind his people's woes still lives, he looks ahead and sees a life without his beloved Glenore-aye, Glenore of the Fearful Heart. And although he balks before the force of the squall of fate, he faces his future in the only way he knows: Arian's Way.
