"Terrible but amusing."
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

A truely terrible movie, but at the same time amusing for those of us in the Free software, and Open Source software camps. A couple of notable real world programmers show up in this movie which is neat. It really doesn't try to hide the fact that the big evil company is a movie representation of Microsoft. Anyway, if you're in to computers it's an amusing movie that you'll probably enjoy even though it's completely ridiculous. For something a bit more grounded in reality try to get your hands on ‘Takedown’.

"Why don't people like this movie"
5 stars"

This movie got bad reviews (1 star on some sites) yet I can't figure out why. It may be because its a bit hard to understand to a non-computer… geek. It's quite easy to follow though, you don't need to know what Milo is typing, just that he's hacking into the computer.

I can't see why Tim Robins didn't win awards for his acting in this movie. His acting is flawless. He adds quirky character traits which make you love him and then he turns into the crafty mastermind he actually is. I should be stop before I give away the plot which is semi-predictable.

5 stars. I have never stopped enjoying this movie. Tim Robins is now my favourite actor. I also love The Shawshank Redemption.

Description

Truth Can Be Dangerous... Trust Can Be Deadly.

After graduating from Stanford, two idealistic computer whiz kids who are best friends are offered jobs at NURV, a giant Portland company with a driven boss, Gary Winston, on the verge of a world-linking satellite communication system. With support from his girlfriend Alice, Milo takes the job; Teddy says no and continues work on a media compression program he wants to make available free. Winston takes a personal interest in Milo, whose genius can help NURV meet its launch date, and Milo responds with brilliance and long hours. When Teddy meets with tragedy and Winston's offhand remark makes Milo suspicious, he decides to investigate Winston and NURV. But, whom can he trust?
