When God in His Almighty Providence took from our midst Dr. Thomas Sargent Latimer, he took one of our' most beloved professors. Thomas Sargent Latimer was born in Savannah, Georgia, on June 1839, and died in the city of Baltimore on May 16, 1906. His was the son of William Geddes Latimer, who. Died in Savannah in 1845, after which period his family removed to Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, and it was there that Thomas Latimer passed his youth. His early education was started at Shrewsbury Academy and was completed at a larger institution at York, Pennsylvania. At the age of eighteen he began the study of medicine, matriculating at the University of Maryland and graduating from that institution in the spring of 1861.
