Description

Excerpt from Anniversary Memoirs of the Boston Society of Natural History: Published in Celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Society's Foundation, 1830-1880 Prof. W. H. Niles spoke of the large amount of work in the care and arrangement of the collections which Mr. Bouve had accomplished during the term of his presidency. Most of this has been done after the business duties of the day, and how frequently be has remained until called home by some one, none but his family know. When alterations in the building were going on, he habitually inspected the entire premises after all others had gone, to see that all was left in safety. The Society has steadily progressed in its usefulness and scientific position during the administration of Mr. Bouve, and heleaves the presidential chair with nothing to regret, and with the esteem and friend of every member. Day by day, and year after year, he has brought here a large t, full of geniality and goodness, and has been in himself a source of happiness to e who have known him as President. It would be a pleasure to reciprocate, in some [i measure at least, his long-continued kindness, and this could be best done by each Iber's trying to make the Society so pleasant for Mr. Bouve, that, as a source of his re happiness, it should be second only to his home and his family. In conclusion, Mr. S said he did not doubt that each member present would likoto express in some spe way his personal respect and honor for him who was the dear friend of all and one of best benefactors the Society ever had; and he hoped they might do so by rising as voted for the adoption of the resolution proposed by Mr. Cummings.
