The Andromeda is poised to enter the Route of Ages. Dylan (Kevin Sorbo) is chronicling the crew’s actions for the Commonwealth, who believe Telemachus Rhade (Steve Bacic) let Tyr Anasazi (Keith Hamilton Cobb) escape. He is hailed by Tyr who proposes a trade: The Star Map for Beka (Lisa Ryder). Instead, Dylan gives Beka the Andromeda’s coordinates, allowing Tyr to follow so they may find out what he knows about the Route of Ages and the universes beyond.

Back on Arun-Roy, Tyr is slowly dropping his guard and letting Beka lure him to believe her loyalty lies with him. He tells her the Magog are much closer than anyone thought, only months away instead of years. Everything they know will die unless he gets to the portal and strikes a deal with the Abyss, but he needs the Star Map to do it. Beka agrees to take him there.

The Andromeda is preparing to make the trip through the Route of Ages. Rommie (Lexa Doig) is explaining the revolving patterns of the portal; they have only seconds to enter the correct one. Once across they must accomplish their mission quickly and return or the portal will disappear. Knowing the danger, Dylan gives each individual this opportunity to stay or go. All side with him and the Andromeda jumps to slipstream, with the Maru following a safe distance behind. Both ships blast out of slipstream in front of the strange and massive portal. Tyr now tells Beka of the portal’s importance, it is a means of entering and exiting the Abyss, weakening it without being caught. He has left drones in his wake, a breadcrumb trail for his Nietzschean armies to find him but he needs the Star Map to determine when to enter the portal. He hails Dylan, demanding the map but Beka betrays him, telling Dylan everything about the connection with the Abyss, the Nietzscheans coming to kill him, and the quickly approaching Magog. Beka and Tyr fight in the Maru’s cockpit. She manages to get to the flight controls and sends the ship spinning towards the portal, where they will be lost forever if they enter at the wrong time. Rommie fires four bucky-cables, stopping the Maru’s descent. They pull back; waiting for the proper time, then plunge into the portal. Each of the crew is thrown into their own personal vertigo as their minds attempt to comprehend the shift to an entirely different universe.

Trance comes to each person, calming them and focusing their minds. She works to connect them all, concentrating their minds on finding Beka. Dylan, Harper, and Rhade pop into existence in a cave next to the Maru. They have found some kind of equilibrium but they see the amorphous mass of the Abyss approaching. They blast it and it recedes again, giving them time to concentrate and reappear near a huge precipice where Tyr is holding Beka hostage. He fires at them and once more offers to trade Beka for the Star Map. Dylan focuses and appears behind him. He hits Tyr over the head with his force lance and the two struggle on the ground. Tyr shakes him off and runs but Dylan shoots him, watching as he staggers towards the precipice and falls to his fiery death. The three rush to Beka, who is almost catatonic. Dylan speaks to her, calms her and focuses her mind on the Andromeda. The four of them concentrate together as the Abyss begins to advance towards them. It is almost upon them when they disappear and reappear on Andromeda’s command deck.

The crew is in a race against time to escape the Abyss and retreat to the portal before their time expires and it vanishes. Harper gives the ship all the power he can but Rommie knows they won’t make it in time. The crew watches in horror as the portal flashes out of existence, stranding them. Dylan clears everyone out of command except for Trance. In a prior conversation, she revealed to him that she was born to traverse all universes. He now asks her to reveal exactly what she meant by that and who she really is. Her body begins to dissolve, transforming into her true self, an avatar of a Sun. She says they are all connected, all elements of the same thing. In order to escape she must destroy them all in this universe and deliver them to the next. Dylan trusts her and surrenders himself. Energy beams burst forth from Trance, piercing Dylan, the crew, and the entire ship. The Andromeda is absorbed from the inside out by the blinding light and the Route of Ages appears again before them. The Andromeda shoots through the portal.

Everyone is safely aboard the ship in the proper universe, apparently unaware of the events that have just taken place. Dylan and Trance are the only two who know what has happened. Knowing he might need her “talents” in future battles, Dylan decides to keep her identity a secret.
