In the days of time forgotten, we rode from the plains of the Caspian Sea, to the northern shore of the Black Sea. In the misty days of our distant past, we rode against them. We lost to Pompey the Great then, 66 years before the Christ. In the time of our fore-fathers, our kinsmen rode against them again. They were defeated at Zela then, by their General Julius Caesar, 47 years before the Christ. I am "Perun," a horseman of the Alani, named after our god of thunder and lightning. I ride south across the Danube River, to meet with our allies the Goths, to ride against their Emperor Valens, toward the battle-ground at Hadrianopolis.
