Description

Excerpt from Air Drying of Softwood Lumber, Fairbanks, Alaska The pile that began drying in May was dry 19 percent moisture content) within a month. The pile that began drying in July had an average moisture content of 18 percent within 70 days, but even then more than 5 percent of the volume had a moisture content 19 percent. The pile that began drying in December still had a moisture content 50 percent after 70 days. Drying rates in summer were correlated with average daily temperature and average daily dew point to derive predictive equations that could be used with daily or monthly averages.
