"Damn awesome"
5 stars"

I love this game, awesome graphics and damn lots of fun. Those ppl below with graphics problems need to look after the pcs better because mine is a Athlon 3200+ 1.6 gig of ram and a 7600GT and the game works perfect and used to work perfect on 6200.

The battles are fun and hard and the environments and explosions look amazing! best ive seen in a game yet, even better then COH in my opinion. i highly rate this game and the expansion and any RTS person would like this game.

"Not buggy for me, and good fun"
4 stars"

I was going to write a review when I got this, but forgot. Just came across the listing again and saw the previous two posts, so had to say something.

This game is great fun. The factions are not the same as in Zero Hour, but they are balanced, and it makes for a nice change to ZH rip-offs. I've had no trouble with drivers or bugs. The graphics are great, the storyline is kinda cool too. Oh, and the price is pretty good!

If you're worried about potential driver problems then download the free demo and give that a go first. I like it because gameplay is a lot more like CNC than most recent RTS games where the emphasis is on capturing strategic points. That's fun too, but, this is nice for a change.

Gets 4 stars because I still play ZH more than I play this. :) That's only because I know more people with ZH though…

"Fussy on specs."

Very hard to find a computer that it will run on as the game is so finicky on its hardware requirements. Not impressed as I have tried to load it on three different computers that supposedly are in excess of its requirements. Only to have it fail to install on two out of three machines. On the third machine it installed but kept crashing so often it is useless as a game. Very disappointed.

"Hope it runs"

Yeah, you need to be careful of this one. I have a 3Gig P4 with IGig of 533 RAM and 128MB 6600GT PCI-e video card and the game, even patched, kept freezing and crashing ( this same machine runs Doom3, Quake4, HL2, FarCry etc without any issues and on high settings). Atari response to my queries was pathetic (install DX9.0c -DUH!) and then non-existent. Atari get 0 out of 10 for service. Beware. GamePlanet is too good a company to associate itself with rubbish like this: don't stock it.

Great graphics, and control options.

"Not for 64 bit windows 7" Purchased on Mighty Ape

Promised to be a good game, but will not run under win 7 64 bit home premium. Be careful if you are thinking of buying this.

"Solid, no surprises RTS"

For a game released in 2005 I was pleasantly surprised by the graphics. The unit models are nothing to write home about, but the environment is wonderfully detailed, especially the city missions that bookend the game.

All the traditional elements of Red Alert-style RTS are here – tech trees, individual unit control, base-building – but there are some nice touches, such as the ability to earn money by taking enemy prisoners, or by occupying the local bank. Infantry end up being quite powerful, so woe betide anyone foolish enough to try a tank rush in Washington without sending out your snipers to clear the buildings along your line of advance first. Buildings can be rendered uninhabital, but unfortunately there isn't the landscape destructibility we've come to expect in more modern games.

It's no Company of Heroes, but at the $20 price point it is definitely able to divert your attention without taxing your brain (or wallet) too much.

Download the demo of this game first just to check whether or not the game will function properly. The campaign is highly detailed and looks amazing, with so many possibilites on how to complete an objective. Haven't had any faults with it at all and this should be a must buy.

"Word of caution when buying this"
2 stars"

Yes, careful buying this product. As cool and awesome as it may be, the game seems to have some serious performance issues. Just look at all the complaints in the Atari UK forums and you'll see what I mean.

My PC – Athlon 2400XP 512RAM 24XDVD-RW GeForceFX5700 WINXPPRO can't even load a single mission, but keeps rebooting. Even with updated Nvidia Drivers, and the No.2 Patch, still no go. There are those with high performance PCs (i.e Athlon 64 and Radeon X850) that keep crashing or have serious graphics issues.

Don't rely on Atari, they're not very helpful. Even if you follow all their advice, you'll probably find 9/10 it won't solve your particular problem.

Interestingly the system requirements on the box are different from those listed on the Gpstore website. DVDROM 2X or more, 6 GB free HD space, DirectX 9.0c and compatible video card. Another worthy note is that the game doesn't support GeForce 4 MX cards, as stated on box, but not on GP site, so don't bother buying AoW unless you plan to upgrade.

Looks like a cool game but still unplayable. Looks like I'll have to go back to C&C Generals. Probably have to sell my AoW copy or wait for a future patch – sigh. REMEMBER you have been WARNED!!!

Act of war is similar to an old Westwood studioes (RIP) game called Command and Conquer. It contains modern day units, in 3 factions, the USA, Taskforce Talon and the Consortium. The ‘war’ takes place in modern day times, and the storyline is terrific (About oil price raises, and the control of). The graphics engine is excellent, and the game uses the old skool videos (Like C'n'C) with real actors, which no doubt is the reason this game requires 6Gb of HDD Space, and is oly available on DVD.

If you like C&C Generals, then you'll love this game.
