Excerpt from A Year's Prayer-Meeting Talks For several years I have been in receipt Of letters from ministers indifferent parts of the country, of wide variety of denomination, suggesting that I put out a volume such as the one here presented. I have always had the pleasure and blessing Of a large and interesting prayer-meeting. For many years in downtown city churches the prayer-meet ing has always numbered hundreds Of attendants. I think one Of the chief reasons for this is that I have made much of the prayer-meeting in my an nouncements on Sunday, have never allowed any thing to keep me away from it, and have made as careful preparation for it in the prayer-meeting talk, in the selection and arrangement of music, and indeed in all particulars, as for the services on Sunday. These prayer-meeting talks were de livered in the First Methodist Episcopal church, Cleveland, Of which I am pastor, during the past year.
