Denis Browne, brother of the first Marquess of Sligo. The mansion was built about two hundred years ago by the grandfather of the present Lord Oranmore and Browne. It is a solid structure of grey stone, in the Palladian style of architecture, and stands on the top of a gentle hill, facing the town of Clare. The approach to it is by a noble avenue of beech trees, that cover about two-and-twenty (sta tute) acres.
