His views respecting large private undertakings, water companies, gas companies, &c., which he was of opinion should be vested under municipal control, and conducted solely for public advantage, aroused a powerful feeling of antagonism in many quarters; but there is little doubt that a few years will see this system developed to an extent that will do justice to his convictions.
