Abstract: ABSTRACT In recent years, great emphasis has been focus onto the teacher development under the wave of education reforms. Traditional view of teachers as being the knowledge transmitters only has undergone drastic change and the requirement for teachers is getting more and more demanding. Working with this background, teacher development has become a primary concern in school management since it serves as an effective mean to enhance teachers' professional competence which, in turn, brings about improvement in teaching and learning processes. As it is realized that there is a growing trend of arranging school visits to mainland China for teacher development, it is the curious of the researcher to investigate various factors influencing the effectiveness of organizing such kind of program. Without any pre-determined design and theory except some ideas obtained from the literatures and recent studies on staff development, the researcher interviewed 40 informants from 9 case schools to explore information.
