Lawrie Metcalf is one of the world's authorities on hebes and an award-winning horticulturist, well known for his commitment to conserving and promoting knowledge of New Zealand flora. He is the author of several books on New Zealand flora. His titles published by New Holland include two other photographic guides (Trees and Ferns), and Know Your New Zealand Trees.
