Excerpt from A Meeting to Vote on the Subpoena of Defense Department and Other Witnesses: Meeting Before the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere of the Committee on International Relations, House of Representatives, One Hundred Fourth Congress, Second Session, September 25, 1996 We do not intend to call everybody, but the relevant people need to be subpoenaed, and that is why we have gone a little bit beyond what we would otherwise do.
And I would like to state to people from the State Department, Treasury and the Defense Department, as I said before, if we have your cooperation it is not our intent to subpoena the heads of those Departments. We are only doing that as a precautionary measure.
