ROBERT L. GALE is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Pittsburgh. His previous books include A Ross Macdonald Companion (2002), A Dashiell Hammett Companion (2000), and A Mickey Spillane Companion (2003), all available from Greenwood Press.
