The US Forest Service was created in the early 20th century to provide scientific management of the nation's forests, and for many years it was regarded as a model agency in the federal government. The author contends that this reputation is undeserved and that the performance of the Forest Service today is unacceptable. In this book he makes a compelling case for abolishing the US Forest Service and replacing it with a decentralised system to manage the protection of our national forests. This study offers an insightful environmental policy alternatives.
