Zeroes is about a group of teens with sucky superpowers, who accidentally get mixed up in a bank robbery, and are being chased by mobsters and the police. It's a wild ride, and I loved it. You'd think it would be plot driven – and while there is some great action, it is very centered on the characters and the dynamics between them. The kinda stuff I eat up.
There were long periods of time spent just developing the relationships. I loved it. Where it faulted was when the characters were alone – they became a little flat when they were just wallowing in their sorrows with no one to bounce off of.
While the character dynamics were awesome, the plot was lacking. There was a simmering tension underlying the story, but with the climax, it was ramped up to eleven, a sudden and jolting change of pace. I hope the sequel finds a better balance between plot and character. I look forward to it – the Zeroes trilogy looks like it's gonna be a new favourite of mine!
