"Excellent LIMITED edition of a great game!"
5 stars"

This is a limited edition in the famous Ticket to Ride series of board games published by Days of Wonder. The author Alan Moon has come up with another winning design!

The game is based on building train routes to connect between cities. In this version, the map is based on the Scandinavian region.

On a turn, players can either draw cards from a face-up pile, or draw cards from a face-down pile, or build tracks using the cards they have in their hand, or draw new “mission” cards also known as destination tickets.

Forming long routes will earn more points compared to shorter ones. Your objective is to complete the “missions” on the destination tickets, which is having a route from one city to another city. When you have completed these missions, you can opt to draw new destination tickets for more missions. Again, you get points for completing these destination tickets, but only at the end of the game.

I really enjoyed the game and so did everyone else I've played it. After playing this, you wouldn't want to waste your time playing games like Monopoly again.

"Great game for 2-3 players"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

We have the original TtR game and love it. I bought this version for 2–3 players for those times when one of the kids wants to play and the other one doesn't. I wanted to give it 5 stars but the kids think the tunnel and ferry rules are just a little bit complicated – they are both under 8 years and got the rules after a couple of games. I find the large cards easier to hold than the cards in the original TtR, but the kids find the smaller cards easier. On balance we probably prefer the original, but we play this more often because it's easier to get two people together for a game.

"Great game for the family or to play with friends (2-3 players)"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I've played Ticket to Ride on numerous ocassions with friend, but I've never actually owned a copy myself…until now! I wanted a family based game that I could also play with adults, something that was easy to learn but still had strategy aspects.

Nordic Countries is specifically a 2 or 3 player game, so great for a small family, and I was really surprised how quickly my son (almost 6 years) picked up the game play. I still need to work through some of the strategies with him, but this game does keep him interested as he enjoys placing out his trains and keeping score.

The rules differ slightly from the original (USA) or Europe version, and the map has lots of ferries (requiring locamotives) and tunnels (and unpronoucable place-names which we had lots of fun with!).

To make the game even more fun, I added “Alvin & Dexter” (available on Mighty Ape) – an alien and dinosaur which players can move around and create chaos in cities!!!

I highly recommend Nordic as either an intorduction to the Ticket to Ride series, or as an addition to the collections of seasoned players.

Description

Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries takes you on a Nordic adventure through Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden as you travel to the great northern cities of Copenhagen, Oslo, Helsinki and Stockholm. Visit Norway’s beautiful fjords and the magnificent mountain scenery on the Rauma Railway. Breathe in the salt air of the busy Swedish ports on the Baltic Sea. Ride through the Danish countryside where Vikings once walked. Hop on the Finnish railway and travel across the Arctic Circle to the land of the Midnight Sun.

Players collect cards of various types of train cars that enable them to claim railway routes and pass through tunnels and onto ferries, as they connect cities throughout the Nordic Countries.
