Description

The Artesania Latina Santa Maria wooden ship model accurately recreates the real life ship that, together with the Pinta and Nina, is famous the world over for its part in Columbus's discovery of the New World on 12th October, 1492.

On Christmas Eve of that year it broke up off the coast of Haiti and its timbers were subsequently used to build Fort Navidad, the first European colony. Artesania Latina wanted to participate in the commemoration of Columbus' discovery, and what better way than to create a beautiful model of the Santa Maria.

When complete this wooden boat kit has a length of 560mm, height of 485mm and beam of 160mm. The kit features double plank-on-bulkhead construction, with parts laser-cut for accuracy, and comes with a set of pre-sewn sails. Precious woods used in the construction of this kit include african walnut, mukali and sapelli. There are many fittings made of hardwoods or brass, such as eyebolts, hinges, capstan, nails and more.

  • Hand sewn and sized cloth sails.
  • All-wood construction features african walnut, mukali, plywood, and sapelli.
  • Brass hardware such as eyebolts, hinges, capstan, nails and more.
  • Two colours of brown thread for realistic rigging applications.
