The environments covered are: dry/splash zone - pohutukawa, flax, grasses, shag, tern, kingfisher; high-tide line - periwinkles, black nerita, seagulls, coralline algae; intertidal zone - black mussels, crabs, bull kelp, reef starfish; low-tide line - sea urchin, wandering anemone, cat's eye snails, sponges, crayfish; rock pools - cushion starfish, small fish, nudibranchs, shrimp; sub-tidal zone - kelp, seahorse, sea spider, jellyfish, octopus, scallop; There will also be a species index.

Author Biography

Gillian and Darryl Torckler share a passion for the oceans and their exploration. They have dived in almost all the oceans of the world, but still savour the diversity and colour of New Zealand's unique marine environment. Gillian is a scientist at Auckland University. Darryl is a full-time freelance photographer and has won more than one hundred international awards for his stunning photography.
