As excited as I was in the lead-up to the launch of the PlayStation 4 my expectations were exceeded when I finally got Sony's shiny (half not) console home. The PlayStation 3 had an often unfairly rough time over its (so far) six year life but all of the justified criticisms have been addressed in the fourth iteration. The UI is slick and fast, downloads happen seamlessly in the background thanks to a dedicated processor, the architecture is powerful yet easy to develop for and every ounce of its massive raw power looks set to be unlocked far sooner this time. Everything about the PlayStation 4 is refined to a wonderful sheen. The controller is comfortable and rich in features from the light bar to the touchpad to the in built speaker which gives games like Killzone Shadow Fall and the amazing Resogun an added layer of immersion. The machine drops to an almost silent hum in standby mode as it performs downloads and charges controllers even though it is off (sort of). The launch games provide a mere glimpse of what is to come with superb versions of Assassin's Creed IV, Need For Speed, Battlefield 4 and Call Of Duty Ghosts. With games in the wings from Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Sucker Punch and Evolution not to mention a host of third parties the future looks far brighter than even the great start it has already had would suggest. Simply the finest console that money can buy.

Just received mine, and it runs perfectly, its graphics are on a new level and the controller is so much better than the dualshock 3.

Had it for a couple of weeks now and am lovin it to bits. So many great new features like the share functionality and the redesigned controller, and the games are a big step up in terms of visual quality over the PS3 and xbox360.

Great console responds well to voice, controller and phone. 5 thumbs up!

Playing Assassin's Creed IV at moment great graphics and new controllers neat and once I learn how to use new style will be sweet Easy to set up bit weird the on/off button hows it sort of hidden but so far great console No crash's or issues as yet

I was quite disappointed with the lack of improvements to be found in the PS4.

First of all, no DLNA support – which means no more using your Playstation as a media server to play music, movies (yet). This will hopefully be added a later date, although it's unconfirmed.

The visuals are on par with a mid-range PC. This is great, no more dumbing down the console version of games. It will be interesting to see how much life Sony can milk out of this generation.

The new controller is great, and fits in your hand much better than the Dualshock 3.

The current lineup of games are a bit average. I regret buying mine on Day 1. I would wait until March when there is a whole range of games set to be released.

I've had a Playstation 4 before but sold it to help fund my venture into the PC Masterrace but had to buy one back because the deal at the time was so good 3 games a vertical stand and the console for only 578 if you sell the games you can cut another 100 off that making it 478 the cheapest way to buy a brand new ps4 in NZ.

If you're still on last gen, the difference is obvious. I've moved from 360 to Ps4. The controller for the ps4 is much improved over ps3 although not quite as comfortable as the 360 controller although it does have a standard 3.5mm audio jack and driver so you can plug your own mic/headphones into the controller itself. PsPlus is better than xboxlive gold . Finally, the share/screenshot feature is a real treat. Being able to edit and upload videoclips at ease is a fantastic feature, especially for sandbox games. Finally the companion app for my smartphone is great.

The increased reliance on online gaming has come unstuck for Sony. My son can't even start destiny without psn login and the network has been down since Xmas day. Time for plan b Sony

Becoming a Playstation+ member is so cheap, yet you get awesome benefits… access to any upcoming betas, a free game, discounts & more… the graphics are incredible and the new game recording system will save people a lot of money in game capture hardware.

It is quite nice and smooth to run. Playing the more demanding games on the ps4 didnt slow it down like it did for the ps3. It might not come with much launch games but it those will be filled in from the days to come. It is very quiet and soft sounding so it wont disturb while using. It is overall really good and it is definitely something I would recommend I general. It is a very good competitor with lots of graphics and RAM for the next half decade! So overall a great console!

Having been an Xbox 360 man for the last 8 years, I was persuaded to go for Sony's offering this time around. Overall I am very pleased with it. The graphics are gorgeous and I own 3 games which I am VERY pleased with. (COD, FIFA14 and Assassins Creed). My only complaint is that the disk drive broke after owning it for 30 days (Mighty Ape customer service was superb in replacing the console same day). I just hope that the fault was an isolated incident. Other than that, I am very pleased with it.

The Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) has been enhanced in a number of ways, principally to allow for easier use of the GPU for general purpose computing (GPGPU) such as physics simulation. The GPU contains a unified array of 18 compute units, which collectively generate 1.84 Teraflops of processing power that can freely be applied to graphics, simulation tasks, or some mixture of the two.

PS4 is equipped with 8 GB of unified system memory, easing game creation and increasing the richness of content achievable on the platform. GDDR5 is used for this memory, giving the system 176 GB/second of bandwidth and providing a further boost to graphics performance. The end result for gamers is new games with rich, high-fidelity graphics and deeply immersive experiences that shatter expectations.

Shared Game Experiences Social interaction is central to PS4 experiences, so new features were built into the actual foundation of the system’s hardware architecture. PS4 provides dedicated, “always on” video compression and decompression systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. For the first time ever, gamers can share their epic triumphs with the press of a button. Gamers simply hit the “SHARE button” on the controller, scan through the last few minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game—the video uploads as the gamer plays. Gamers can share their images and videos to their friends on social networking services such as Facebook.

PS4 also enhances social spectating by enabling gamers to broadcast their gameplay in real-time to friends using live internet streaming services such as Ustream. During live broadcasts, friends can make comments on the streamed gameplay and, if a gamer gets stuck on a challenging level, friends can also join the game in completely new ways. For example, friends can offer health potions or special weapons when a player needs them most during actual gameplay.

Furthermore, users can connect their Facebook account with Sony Entertainment Network account. Through PS4, users are able to deepen their connections through co-op play or “cross-game chat”.

PS4 Second Screens PS4 integrates second screens, including PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita), smartphones and tablets, to wrap gamers in their favorite content wherever they are. A key feature enabled by second screens is “Remote Play” and PS4 fully unlocks its potential by making PS Vita the ultimate companion device. With PS Vita, gamers will be able to seamlessly pull PS4 titles from their living room TVs and play them on PS Vita’s beautiful 5-inch display and intuitive dual analog sticks over Wi-Fi networks*1. It is SCEI’s long-term vision is to make most PS4 titles playable on PS Vita*2.

A new application from SCE called “PlayStation®App” will enable iPhone, iPad, and AndroidTM based smartphones and tablets*3 to become second screens. Once installed on these devices, users can, for example, see maps on their second screens when playing an adventure game, purchase PS4 games while away from home and download it directly to the console at home, or remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices.

Immediate Gameplay PS4 radically reduces the lag time between players and their content. PS4 features “suspend mode” which keeps the system in a low power state while preserving the game session. The time it takes today to boot a console and load a saved game will be a thing of the past. With PS4, gamers just hit the power button again and are promptly back playing the game at the exact point where they left off. Additionally, users can boot a variety of applications including a web browser when playing a game on PS4.

PS4 also enables games to be downloaded or updated in the background, or even in stand-by mode. The system takes it one step further by making digital titles playable as they are being downloaded. When a player purchases a game, PS4 downloads just a fraction of the data so gamers can start playing immediately, and the rest is downloaded in the background during actual gameplay.

Personalized, Curated Content On the newly designed PS4 menu screen, players can look over game-related information shared by friends, view friends’ gameplay with ease, or obtain information of recommended content, including games, TV shows and movies. The long-term goal of PS4 is to reduce download times of digital titles to zero: if the system knows enough about a player to predict the next game they will purchase, then that game can be loaded and ready to go before they even click the “buy” button. PS4 will further enrich users’ entertainment experiences, by meeting their potential needs.

Gaming in the Cloud Launched in November 2006, PlayStation Network, a network service for PlayStation users, now operates in 67 countries and regions 4 around the world with the total number of downloaded content of more than 2.8 billion 5.

As of 2 days ago I have both new consoles. I've had about 3 – 4 weeks on the Xbox One and 2 days on the PS4. At this stage I am not sure which one I prefer. Sure the PS4 user interface was better than the PS3 which it needed to be. The UI runs seamlessly and I've observed no issues where as there are several issues with xbox one. Most minor that will be patched apparently. As far as next gen though I'm struggling to get excited by the PS4 at the moment where as I really loved the Xbox One right from the start. I'm not saying the PS4 is not good it is but it just doesn't feel like much of a step up from the PS3. The way the xbox one was presented in its packaging was even better and the HDMI cable for xbox one was a gold connection compared to a stainless steel connection for the PS4. Just seems like PS4 has been a bit cheap in some respects on some of these other little things like HDMI cable and headphones. One thing that was a big plus for me with the PS4 is that my PS3 Surround sound wireless headset works on the PS4. Anyway so while not quite as excited about the PS4 as the Xbox One it is still really good. It just doesn't have the same next gen feel that the xbox one has. I feel Sony have played it safe with this release and not really done much to push what can be possible from a games console. That said it does what its supposed to (play games) really well and I like the standby mode for update downloads and charging controllers. I guess its simplicity is its strength so while the xbox one impresses right from unpacking it the PS4 is more subtle about its improvements. So far I am undecided about which one I like better they both have their strengths and weaknesses and for that it is nice to have both as what one may lack the other makes up for it. If you can I would recommend getting both and you will be well set up to enjoy what these next gen consoles will offer gamers.

A good console marred by a mediocre set of launch exclusives. Hopefully things pick up later this year.

This console is on another level; I am thoroughly impressed and so glad I pre ordered back in June! now all I am waiting for is more games to come out! Sony have outdone themselves. All hail the PS4 :)

You can't beat the raw bandwidth of the ps4 and no amount of cloud computing will make up that deficit.

Game exclusivity was my only concern. Microsoft spent a lot on marketing and paying off game devs. But if u have decent PC then that won't matter.

My only complaint is the ps4 controller cable lengths.

But for me, as a PC owner, ps4 was the right choice.

As good if not better than the ps4 in terms of the interface and of course outstanding graphics as expected. No problems what so ever even being the 1st gen. Can not wait for game developers to push it's limits!

The PS4 lives up to the hype. It is a marked improvement over the PS3 in every way. While a lot of the early games will not set the world on fire they are solid, enjoyable games that can only get better as developers get to grips with the new system. If you can get hold of one, do it, you won't be disappointed.

No regrets at switching my allegiance to PS4, sleek design, very responsive. Admittedly it took a while to get used to the different controller and screen layout but fantastic!!

I relly dont know where to start, the Playstation 4 is a truely amazing consol, not just for the fantastic grafical ability or the astounding level of responsivness, but also the power behind it is just insane. From unboxing the Playstation 4 to explorung the new IU, the new addition to the Playsttation family ticks all the boxes.

I cannot believe how beautiful this machine is, and it is still incredibly only very early days. In a few years time we will be even more blown away by what the PS4 is capable of, when developers are able to fully utilise its potential!

Received my console at launch, not had any issues. DS4 controller feels super comfortable. Not regretting switching allegences in this generation.

Just unbelievable

The PS4 is a great gaming unit – super fast loading, next level graphics (obviously), great new controller – but that's about it. It doesn't support external HD's (at the moment) so any music, pictures, movies or what have you that you have on an external HD, can't be accessed by the PS4… It's a shame that the next gen PlayStation can't do as much as the previous version… But this may change in the future with patches and updates etc… Just a little something to think about…

I am and have always been a playstation fan. I have bought all consoles on day one release.

Sony have gutted and strangled this console by removing all the functionality like viewing and storing your own photos and videos, ps3 is fantastic for 3D photos as well. But worse of all YOU CANNOT PLAY PS# GAMES on a PS4. They have shot themselves in the foot this time.

I have purchased a PS4 and I will keep it. Just for Gran Turissimo, but don't sell your PS3 any time soon!

Dissappointed Fan

By far the biggest leap forward in console development since PS1 to PS2. I haven't played any games specifically made for the new gen consoles yet, but I am sure they will be awesome, given how good the launch titles looked on this console, and they weren't even made specifically for this generation. Must buy.

Great Machine, except on delivery day I was left disappointed because it would not turn on!, Sent to sony 5 days later received another PS4 and have enjoyed some great next gen gameplay. This machine is going to be awesome in the next few years

Just got my console the graphics are crazy cant wait to see them push the ps4 to the max and see how much better graphics they can get using this beast. The best part of the new console for me is the new controllers it's so nice to use and it doesn't make my hands get wet. Ps i'm not a playstation fan boy I like both consoles but I chose ps4 this time.

The PS4 is a quality console, if you have any doubts on buying I would definitely recommend you do. Looks great, run smoothly, haven't had any problems in the few weeks I've had it. Only problem is there isn't a whole lot of games to choose from yet

Good graphics, good games, all around fun. Despite what alot of people say about how xbox controllers are better etc etc I actually prefer the ps4 controller to my 360 controller.

Happy with service but if I could suggest that when goods are dispatched on a Friday, customers are offered the chance to buy a Saturday delivery courier ticket so that the goods are delivered the next day :)

Would be 5 stars except that to play multiplayer you have to pay, unlike the PS3. Bad form Sony, bad form.

first i was thinking should i or shouldn't i since i already got a gaming pc. So i sold my xbox 360 and ps3 and bought one. It is much larger than i expect it to be. The controller is the best controller i have ever played on. Graphics are the game are very good, Kill zone shadow fall just shows they will be able to push them more. Things i don't like so far i cant watch my 3d blu ray disc yet, don't play music yet. share can be a little buggy sometimes. You will have to buy a new harddrive since it's really 400gb not 500gb harddrive space because the games like nba 2k14 are over 40gb. This is the bit i'm confuse and really hate about the playstation plus membership in america you can get 1 year for $49 american, where as it cost $89 for 1 year in new zealand.

Received my PS4 6 weeks earlier than I was expecting which was a great start. I have bought Fifa 14 and Call of duty and the graphics are amazing. The players from fifa are so life like and even the crowd and their reactions are just awesome and unlike other games they actually react to events in the game. Its so user friendly the controller is well designed and easy to use and overall very happy.

It is such a step up from previous generation of consoles and a joy to have as a gift! The new ‘share’ feature really helps for those epic moments in multiplayer, and sharing with your friends couldn't be more simple. The graphics are pure eye candy, it is truly something that needs to be seen with your own eyes. My recent problem with the console was that it failed to connect to my router via wireless for two days. Then suddenly for some strange reason on the third day it decides to connect. Although I was expecting launch consoles to have these sort of problems. Overall, I would recommend this as a well deserved gift for either yourself or someone special. The PS4 is absolutely amazing to have, and I can't wait for what this console has planned for the future :) .

Super grunty. I could go on and on about this thing. The graphics capabilities are soooo good it doesn't even bother me that it currently has no media support other than the paid services sold by Sony.

a great system with fast load up times and speedy downloads,lots of exciting games to play with amazing graphics and great sound like killzone shadow fall, knack ac 4 and lego marvel. Plays all my dvds and blu rays. a much better controller than last gen. with many great games to come like infamous, uncharted, final fantasy, the order and kingdom hearts I'm gonna be spending a lot of money in the near future

This is worth every cent! Amazing graphics and speed. Can't wait to see how much more they can get out of the ps4 with the games coming next year. Buy one you won't regret it, buy 2 even.

Games are great with cool graphics. Some games glitch, sony still has a few thing sort iron out. Mighty Ape advertised delivered on the 16th but I got it 5 days late. I called them a few times before the 16th and was ensured it would be the 16th but they lied. very let down by them

Had the console for a week, pre ordered the thing back in may, suddenly it just turns itself off, and refuses to go on again. I seriously recommend buying one when A: Stock is available, and B: They've fixed their numerous issues to do with their operating system. Overall, I'm pretty peeved that I waited all this time and spent over $650 on an oversized paperweight, a really sleek and shiny paperweight, but a paperweight non the less.

This console is an ascension and beyond all predecessors. It is lightning quick, does everything that was said at E3 and I've had no defects or white or red light of death claimed by some. Playstation has become the future of gaming and this console proves it.

Is a bad ass console, Sony has definitely out done Microsoft yet again

I just ordered mine, and I can't wait. Looks very cool, I am a bit bummed that it won't arrive before christmas (tomorrow, lol) but it will arrive by my birthday, yay!

The console is well designed and runs perfectly. It has a great, easy to navigate user interface. The only qualm is there are hardly any games out for it at the moment. That is why I give it 4 Stars.

And it exceeded them big time! Battlefield 4 is soooooo much better on the PS4 over the PS3 it's a different game. Must have for the Battlefield lovers!

You'll probably want another headset, though- the one included was too big for my ears and hurt- and I'm an adult.

We love the new features and changes sony has done with the PS4. You can create users and play with multiple PSN accounts at one time which also saves trophies to your own record rather than other. So much easier to use once u get the hang of it. A little saddened that you cant play YouTube and doesnt really have any apps apart from IGN to begin with and you need to buy PlayStation Plus every month to play multiplayer online. ALSO cant save videos, pics or music. Just a lil confused about how you can share your gameplay on youtube with a press of a button– but cant watch youtube on the console– hmm… Other than that. Its pretty cool.

I have had a great time with the PS4, in the previous gaming generation I owned (and still own) a Xbox 360. I also own a Xbox One (the one with the power brick which I'm seeking to replace/upgrade at some point), but the PS4 has dominated. I have mostly played games like Bf4, Rainbow Six: Siege, the latest Call of Dutys, Uncharted series, Fallout 4 and others on the console.

The only ever downside with the PS4, this version, was the 500 GB hard drive, but that's something to overcome with purchasing an internal or external hard drive with more disc space.

Fantastic console. Make sure to charge your controller while at work.. Or you'll be sitting 3 foot from the tv…

This is by far the more superior next gen console. If you want a good gaming console this is for you. Maybe you might want to sit down and play a few hours of gta, this is the console for you. Just want to netfilx and chill, this I the console for you. I'm glad in the purchase I made.

Can honestly, not get enough of this console

Exactly what I expected !

The new games are awesome and the console itself has some great new features that make gaming faster, like shorter saving times, video recording and custom button assignments. Downsides for me would be the new user interface, although they just added folders so that makes it better than it was, but that seems like something that would depend on the player though. They also changed the recorded video display for no reason. So instead of having all the videos organised by the name you give it, it now puts all the videos randomly in the folder without names, so you have to sort through them to find the video you just recorded.

The controller is cool, although the battery life is considerably worse than ps3 and it has a light bar that drains the battery, which you cant turn off.

The rest mode is really handy for downloading things, as it downloads much faster in that mode. All things considered, a well made console.

We have had a ps4 not long after release its a great machine very smooth gameplay and superb graphics runs everything flawlessly so far im not a fan of the new controllers but you can buy thumb grip covers to make them more like ps3 if thats what u like they were about 2$ online hope this helps sum buyers who are not ready to make the move to the future of game consoles.

After considering the software that would be suitable for my nephew and the future possibilities of the console, the PlayStation 4 makes a great addition to gaming, media and web surfing all wrapped up in one neat product, easy to set up and even easier to access games and media like amazon movies, Netflix and YouTube and their latest Spotify. I would recommend this to anyone looking to buy a console, this machine has the power and the up and coming games to keep any gamer happy for this generation console

I've had it for about a couple weeks now and I really enjoy it, the console itself works excellent. The delivery was very fast too thanks to mighty ape.

This console is definitely worth it, as soon as you start playing you can tell the differences from playing games on the ps3 and that it is better. Amazing console with more amazing games yet to come and a very awesome controller; probably the best yet!

I gave 4 stars because everything went perfect apart from one thing, the signature require; I paid about 3$ or 4$ for the signature requirement for nothing. The postman placed the box of ps4 in front of my house (a shared house) without saying a word and of course I didn't have to sign anything. In worse case is somebody who picked up the package wasn't me and if it went lost etc., it would have been difficult to find it.

The step up from PS3 to PS4 is awesome highly recommend!

Being a first time consumer of this online shop, I can definitely say that they live up to their standards. Fast delivery and no problems. The PS4 itself is a great console, the share button being a major instalment.

Delivery wasn't quite what I wanted, as I submitted an order for overnight delivery, but the PS4 came 2 days later. (Non-Rural)

However, even with the above issue I was still impressed with the system itself and how it was handled.

The best console yet, it has everything you want from internet browsing to apps to the most important playing games. It plays any game you throw at it really smooth. A MUST BUY.

Didn't even have time to finish my sandwich! That part was great. However I did hit a snag when I realised I couldn't log onto PSN because who remembers a five year old password- And that whole not putting my valid birthdate came back to haunt me big time as that is the only way to change your password. Couldn't remember what I put as my “birthday”. Fail. Also PSN doesn't list the correct support number for NZ and when I did get to the right place it was faulty and it took three attempts to get past the computer options to a human without being hung up on.

But the PS4 console so far has been great. Just can't play any of the games I want until the account is sorted. Which is a reason people don't want internet connection only software really. And is more a complaint with PSN rather than the console.

Excellent console, graphics are stunning, and you can multitask – have a game open, suddenly switch and browse the web and switch back again without closing either task. The controller is full of gimmicks like the touchpad and has been redesigned with a really nice look and feel.

I think the only thing that lets it down is that it was released almost a year ago but there is such a small selection of games currently out for it; everything I wanna play is on my wishlist waiting to be released! Looking forward to the coming year in gaming.

I thought long and hard about buying into this new wave of consoles, and I have to say; the PS4 certainly hasn't disappointed!

A great purchase. If your trying to decide if your going to get one I say get it

Sort of bought this in on impulse, without any research and with the optimistic idea that GTA5 at the very least was released onto it. Instead I got about a days worth of gameplay out of Second Son which I would rate as a ‘nice’ game. Not bad, to be sure, but definitely not anything to write home about.

The PS4 has yet to have any real games on it – get them on PC for 20% of the price or get a PS4 and pay extra, that's your choice and I can understand it for some people, but I would honestly just recommend that gamers who aren't shy around a PC to stick with it. I've got a PS3, and I'm fairly happy with the games I've got on it, the PS4 has yet to have anything to offer. Not that I'm saying it won't, but for now wait – elsewise you're just paying for the opportunity to pay extra $$$ for games.

TL;DR – ask yourself the title question – ‘Why get a PS4-’, I didn't look into the answer to that, I assumed too much and admit myself a moron for it. If you can answer that happily however, then go for it – to each their own.

This is a great buy and for the first release of the PS$ it is exceptionally good

I must say its worth every penny to get this console. The features are smooth and flexible to use. The features are a lot better and has cutting edge graphics when I am playing my collection of games. I can't wait to play more games that's coming out soon. :-)

I was excited to see my new ps4 arrive in the mail it has been great playing on the ps4 but would have been much better if I were able to have a game to play as only the ps4 was included and no game

Was really looking forward to the lineup of release games. Driveclub and Watchdogs looked rad, and Killzone too. Currently the only ‘True’ next-gen games are Knack and killzone, everything else is visual updates to current gen games. You can't stream media from your home PC (no movies, no music). The only real feature that has me excited for the future of PS4 (and the only reason I haven't sold this waste of space yet) is the implementation of PS Vita for Remote Play.

I have owned all the consoles by all the major players, and am in no way a fan boy with any one in particular – was just highly disappointed by this console. Especially now since it has started randomly beeping when it is TURNED OFF. Middle of the night, beeps intermittently and I have to pull the power cable.

Wish I had gone Xbox.

Well for starters it don't work on projectors unless its hdmi so that's upsetting have to spend at 2 grand for a 50+ inch screen to actually enjoy it coz small don't cut anymore but other than that everything about the ps4 is awesome graphics is sweet not many games out but I can wait

The coolest thing so far is playing PS4 games in bed on my PS Vita. How do they make this witchcraft work! Amazing. Warframe for free day one and Assassins Creed black flag is sweet. Money well spent!

I have had it since release now and it does everything I need makes my bedroom look cool I am quite lucky as I've got a good console and I have not had a single problem or noticed any with my ps4
