You can't go wrong purchasing the G3258 from intel. At $100 + an additional cost for an after-market cooler you can easily get it to 4.2Ghz without having to lift a finger. I highly recommend this CPU for gaming builds as it competes with a lot of i7s.
I bought this Pentium G3258 with the expectation to have some fun with over-clocking and then eventually replace with an i5 but wow, this thing is amazing.
My stable everyday overclock is 4.5GHz, and I've been running that for the last 1 and a half years on the stock cooler, running pretty hot at ~80ºC if not higher most of the time.
I haven't found enough games or workloads to justify an i5 and haven't been able to kill this thing with a 4.5GHz OC running at +80ºC for over a year, so it's going to stay until it dies.

To install this first download the zip file then unzip and place the contents on a USB Flash Drive. Reboot your system and press ‘delete’ during start up to enter BIOS – press F7 then navigate to the usb drive and select the bios update named H81MS2H.F2.
