"English vicar helps his solve murders in a country village"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Set in rural England in the 1950s. Protagonist is a vicar who fought in WWII and still somewhat haunted by what he saw. He has a talent for spotting the solution to the weekly murder and a complicated love life. Good stories, good characters, good to watch.

"British period drama at its best."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Grantchester stands firmly in a long and distinguished tradition of quality British crime drama. Capturing the period flavour of the 50s perfectly in its attention to detail, good storylines and excellent acting make this a series that is worth more than one viewing. Highly recommended.

Description

“As a priest, isn’t everything our business? There’s no part of the human heart which is not our responsibility” – Sidney Chambers

A six-part series, Grantchester, set in 1953 in the beautiful county of Cambridgeshire.

Adapted from the novel, ‘Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death’ by James Runcie, the son of ex-Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie. The series is written by Daisy Coulam, who has previously scripted EastEnders and Casualty.

Set against the backdrop of the real hamlet of Grantchester, the drama focuses upon the life of Sidney Chambers (James Norton), a charismatic, charming clergyman who turns investigative vicar when one of his parishioners dies in suspicious circumstances.

His partner in crime is over-worked Police Inspector, Geordie Keating (Robson Green), a man two inches shorter than he’d like to be, with scuffed shoes and hair not as familiar with a comb as it should be.
