I picked this up at the $10 sale as a gift for my sister, who is a professional photographer. The other review was quite promising, and the cover picture is an elegant portrait. Because of this, I assumed that it was a book of portraits, something that would make a good coffee table read, but reading it is like suffering through an acquaintance's mediocre photo album. The shots are mainly candid, colour, much wider frame than the one on the cover, small on the page, and altogether unimpressive. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wants a book with artistic photographs.

Great to see such a diverse variety of NZ people through someone else's eyes – a great collection.

I brought this for a gift for my sister who now lives in Sydney. I brought it as it is a great depilication of New Zealanders and is a wonderful collection of photo's. Beautiful Book, lovely gift…though I would love a copy for myself.

Description

A photographic celebration of the people of New Zealand by renowned photographer Brian Curtis. While there is a huge number of books around that showcase the many landscapes of our country, few have taken the opportunity to celebrate our people. Faces of New Zealand captures more than 100 images of Kiwis from all over the country and from all walks of life, taking us inside the lives of the locals. Each photo is accompanied by a brief explanatory caption, providing context and commentary. An introduction reflects on the photographic style of portraiture and what inspired the book's photographs. A 'how to take portrait photographs' section at the back of the book provides tips and suggestions for aspiring photographers.
