First off, if you're a fan of Judge Joseph Dredd, buy and watch this great movie. It's more faithful to the 2000AD comics than the so-so 1995 Sylvester Stallone version. I was constantly looking for easter eggs of sorts (signs for Pug Ugly, League of the fatties which is kind of in there with this huge guys eating). I did see a piece of Chopper graffiti. Yay!
This film gets right to the point and doesn't waste any time. Plenty of violent, action and lots of gore. Megacity One is a violent, unforgiving city and this comes across really well. Grimy, filthy and disgusting. You can almost smell the stink coming off this place.
At first I was disappointed that the uniforms didn't have the cool Eagle's crest like in the comics (and the 1995 Sylvester Stallone version) but, I soon got over it as Karl Urban's portrayal of Dredd is excellent. From Dredd's no-nonsense approach to law enforcement and his dark sense of humor. Great job.
I'd like to see these guys tackle a sequel to this film and go for a story that is bigger in scope (Apocalypse War, Day The Law Died, Judge Child Quest, The Dark Judges or something original) and a bigger budget. It's too bad it probably won't happen as no one went to see this in the theaters!! What the hell-!
