You play the Inspector who has already tried, and failed, to find the missing girl Amy. And so, years later, you return to the hotel to find her. The story's pretty good even if it's not that unique; missing person, occult, horror stuff. And it had me interested; the game uses texts from a mysterious source to give you the next clue as to where to go and move the story along.
The environments are great, they really give the game atmosphere; if it was a real place there's no way I would go there. They are flat though and you can only turn 90 degrees at a time. You can also look up and down but it's only required a couple of times in the game which is annoying because who wants to look up and down every ninety degrees in every environment to check for clues. It would have been easier and more interesting to be able to move freely in the environments.
Sound effects were good, they added to the overall creepy feeling and made me jump a couple of times. However, the voice acting for the Inspector didn't seem very real, in fact it made me laugh…he's supposed to be an older, English guy but he sounds like, well, like a voice actor acting an old guy. Dialogue also gets repeated; there's not much variation.
Puzzles! And yep, like in all adventure games this one has some good (doesn't mean easy) ones and some really obscure ones that just annoy you and make you go “what?”
Basically the best part of the game is the atmosphere; it's creepy. But it's short, a bit obscure and slow in terms of interaction. If you like point/click and are a patient sort of person I'm sure you'll find it somewhat entertaining.
