After winning hearts, minds and dancing feet with their eponymous debut album, Letherette return with the stand out single ‘After Dawn’. This is the song from the album that perhaps represents the full-length’s charms best. ‘After Dawn’ is visceral dance music, but it’s also cerebral. It’s hypnotic, dancefloor flitch undergoes a startling transformation midway through the song, to stunning emotive effect.
The remix package goes some way to revealing Letherette’s standing
amongst their music peers. Electronic maverick Jimmy Edgar, fresh from the
success of his partnership with Machine drum in Jets, reworks bonus track
‘Restless; with frantic synth stabs, ecstatic texture and trap-edged drums.
Berghain residents and one-to-watch Barker and Baumecker roll ‘After Dawn’
out into the deepest dancefloor stormer, re-editing the song’s melodic glitch
and marrying it to rolling sub bass thunder. Letherette intimate and Warp
mainstay, Bibio, cleverly teases out ‘After Dawn’s avant-80’s-pop core
before dropping in a melody and
bassline that is impossible to resist.
