A Perfect Chirpy Christmas Review
“..The illustrations by Patrick McDonald are seriously beautiful. The changing perspectives, gorgeous expressions and depth of colour used make this book something very special. The story is very cute, and it is lovely having a Christmas book not featuring any man in a red suit – which I think makes it all the more heartwarming and enjoyable. A Perfect Chirpy Christmas is a lovely southern-hemisphere Christmas book, celebrating what makes us unique at the festive time of year. I think the longing for a white Christmas is a common experience, so this book is really easy to relate to. Though the pictures will appeal to a wide range of ages, the story would have most appeal to ages 4–6+ – it’s full of alliteration and dialogue, and flows well. This would also make the Perfect Chirpy Gift for friends or family who live overseas that you would like to lure home!” kiwifamilies.co.nz

Patrick McDonald is a recent illustration graduate of Massey University, and he can't remember a time when he hasn't been interested in drawing or some aspect of design. Spending four years at university has definitely made illustration feel more like work to him but he's discovered that he really enjoys following a client's brief and trying to meet or exceed their expectations and his own. There isn't one mode of illustration that he prefers over any other but recently he has been working primarily on picture book illustration and he has always held a strong interest in narrative illustration.
