This book is the author's most recent completed work which consists of 3 short stories set in or connected with the imaginary town of Temperance, OR, the setting of his novella Time's Tangent. These three comedies unfold in the author's characteristically light style, which, nevertheless, is highly descriptive and employs a rich vocabulary. Burnett Edward's stated intent is to explore issues of contemporary life and the tensions that exist between the authentic and the false. As one of his characters concludes: "Nothing nurtures genuine self-assurance like experience...and a little careful observation...meanwhile, in the midst of drama, it's good to hear some music, that lily among the thorns."
