Description

Excerpt from 1902-03, Northampton of Today: Depicted by Pen and Camera Still another, an aged man, who had passed the three score and ten years, Samuel Wright of Bridge street, living where the house of John Draper was built, most beautiful for situation, shaded by one of the most beautiful maple trees in the city, planted by Dr. Samuel Stebbins Mr. Wright. Who look a dislike to the town of Northampton, gave to the writer, by will, the house and all its contents. As he had done nothing for his fellowmen in life he wished to leave his property for the benefit of aged women. Harvey Kirkland, his adviser, said his mind was so feeble that a will then made would not stand, and his heirs would break it. And of that valuable estate, after the auction, was sent to the writer, instead of the house a wooden chair, that did not sell.
