"What I was expecting, but somehow disappointing"

Enjoyable game. Graphics are not bad and hell, its resident evil!

The campaign mode is quite short, I finished it on normal on the first night it arrived and finished half of it on professional mode the night after. Its not a long game, it basically has 6 missions and an ending battle.

One downpoint is the AI of your team mates, they are not smart nor very helpful. At best they draw fire away from yourself. But for the AI to just walk straight over trip mines and shoot you in the back of the head when you walk in front of them is pretty poor.

Multiplayer is pretty fun, but nothing amazing and so far im not finding it hugely engaging. It has some cool modes and the inclusion of zombies being everywhere is pretty cool.

In short it isnt a really bad game, the campaign is fun with friends and slaughtering rooms full of zombies is a good time! The multiplayer may keen you comming back for at least a while.

Id say its worth checking out if its your style of game, just dont expect to be blown away by it.

"A stunning and amazing game! 11 out of 10!"
5 stars"

Personally, I absolutely love the game. I have it for both Xbox and PS3 as I find the online communities both different and interesting. Certain aspects could have been slightly tweaked (occasional bug fixing), but the AI has been fixed by a patch and the game is very very very fun. The only let down might be half of the main story is DLC, however what is there, re-creates the awesome Resident Evil 2 and 3 set pieces really well. It's a shiny game which runs well, with 6 character classes to play around with, each with strengths and weaknesses. Plenty of replay value as the Main story can be played solo or with up 3 other people via 4-person co-op. It's a real blast to play through with mates or random people, full Mic support, and some challenging scenarios with hordes of zombies, hunters, lickers and tyrants, along with enemies soldiers who use cover and try and out-flank you.

On the multiplayer side I have been playing it since launch day and have been impressed with it. Team Death match 4-on-4 is my favourite, with the triple threat of the enemy players trying to snipe/bomb/infect/gun you down along with zombies crawling around the level messing up campers and adding a level of chaos. Often simple gun fights can be hectic when someone starts bleeding from taking shots to their body, and every zombie in the level is drawn to that player in a frenzy.

Several weapon classes with various weapons to unlock via exp you get from both single and multiplayer – Shotguns, Sniper rifles, Heavy Machine guns, SMG's, and Assault rifles – each with different stats, like high chance of bleeding, or suppression to be more stealthy. Some DLC weapons are very powerful as well and aren't too expensive for the all weapons pack.

Other modes like ‘survival’, with death match rules until a rescue helicopter turns up after about 9 mins with only 4 seats on it (so with 8 people playing it can get heated), and ‘heroes’ where you get to play as major (and some unique to this game) characters in the RE universe like Ada, Carlos, Jill and Leon. They have more health, but you only live once, and it's a kill-the-enemy-heroes-before-all-yours-die kind of scenario.

RE Operation Raccoon City is a steal at $25, and even though it got panned by critics who hated it, there is a strong community of people on both platforms still playing it. More fun than uncharted's multiplayer which I was disappointed with.

Again, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, some people like cinematic brilliance like uncharted, some want gritty cover-to-cover action of Gears of War – but this is a nice blend of action, randomness with wandering zombies, and some fun classes to explore and have fun with.

If you do get it, have a search for fenberry24. I'll gladly co-op anytime.

"Not a bad game per se, but not a good addition to the franchise."
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

A short game with some very obvious flaws. As many reviews state the AI is well below par. Further this game doesn't introduce any concepts or ideas that can't be found in other games.

That said this game is quite enjoyable. Fast paced and quick to pick up. It's also entertaining enough to while away a few hours playing it. The major flaw is that it tries to be a Resident Evil game and simply doesn't have the storyline, gameplay or atmosphere to pull off being a good addition to the franchise.

Over all it is not a bad game, it's just a poor Resident Evil game.

Description

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third person team based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe and a reinterpretation of the events depicted in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. The setting of the Resident Evil universe not only provides a rich backdrop to the action but delivers a unique and thrilling triple threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W's) add to the mix as players not only compete against an opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters.

It is September 1998 and the action centres once more on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Hearing of this plan, the US Government dispatches its own special forces to uncover any evidence that exposes the cause of the viral infection and Umbrella's actions. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.

Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favourite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.

In addition, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will deliver a number of competitive online multiplayer modes. Each one of these will provide a unique gaming experience thanks to the three way combat between the Umbrella Security Service, US Special Ops and threat of zombies and B.O.W's that could only exist in the deadly and twisted Resident Evil Universe.
