Most ‘Tales of’ games don't get shipped here so I don't bother looking for them. As a turn of events I had stumbled upon a tales title here and it happened to be this one. I'm glad I did.
The battling system is the same as but slightly different to ‘Tales of the Abyss’ and is very addictive. I can't imagine going back to turn based RPG games like most are. If you want an interesting game with diverse/familiar characters and heaps of hidden extras then I would recommend buying this.
The strength of this game really lies in the entertaining, often silly and occasionally quite deep interactions between characters from the various Tales games. The writing is solid and the main plot, while a little clichéd, embraces the little joys and quirks common across the Tales Of series in a very refreshing way. The quest system is fairly strong but can occasionally make getting vital recipe sets very hard to get, and can get a little samey after a while. The story quests are interesting, though, and come often enough to stop things from dragging. The smooth battle system from Tales of Symphonia returns and once again proves why it set the standard for later games, being easy to handle for newcomers and quite fast, although the lack of an ability to ambush monsters (who can and WILL ambush you) can hurt sometimes. Despite some niggling problems that keep it from perfection, a fun and light game that is a PSP must-have for the RPG or Tales Of fan.
