Winter themed armies are less common sights on wargaming tables, with most players choosing more temperate climates to take advantage of the huge variety of basing materials available. But if you're looking at doing a winter army there are plenty of easy techniques you can use to great effect.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows Of The Past Board Game Review

Review by Ben Ruegg

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows Of The Past, is a miniatures board game for 2 to 5 players that puts you in the heat of battle, either as one of the turtles or the villains. With incredibly fast gameplay, discussions between players and a quick setup, this game has become one of my top 10 games and is a great intro game to newcomers to the board game hobby.

Published by IDW and designed by Kevin Wilson who is famed for Doom: The Board Game, and Descent: Journey’s In The Dark, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT): Shadows Of The Past has elements that feel familiar but adds some unique points of difference to the genre. One of the standout features of the game is the dice mechanics of the TMNTs which I will discuss a bit later.

The game's story is made up of four comic book adventures with four scenarios in each. In the comics the TMNTs face off against the villains, and the outcome determines what the next scenario will be. Each of the four comic adventures ends with an epic battle. The great thing here is that you can just jump into any one of the scenarios without needing to have done previous ones, though the stories have a better progression when you do.

Galaxy in Flames: Fate of Konor is Games Workshop's global campaign this summer to coincide with the release of Warhammer 40,000 8th Edition. GW fans will be no strangers to big global campaigns and many of us here in the office have fond memories of the glory days of the massive Armageddon and Eye of Terror campaigns of yesteryear.

Over 6 weeks, players will battle to defend or to destroy Konor, a crucial Forge World in the Realm of Ultramar. Konor could be a pillar upon which a resurgent Imperium of Man could stand or if it falls, a rotting, rusted nail in the coffin of an already faltering empire.

How to get involved

There are many ways for you to contribute to the war effort, from playing and winning games through to collecting and painting new units and armies.

While the cold grasp of winter may have descended upon us down here in the Southern Hemisphere, it's summer on the other side of the world. Throughout history summer was the major campaign or raiding season for armies and it has also become the traditional time for the big tabletop gaming companies to run their global campaigns.

So let's take a look at the upcoming global campaigns which you can take part in and help shape history…
