You've Cleansed, you've Toned, you're ready to moisturise!

Everyone should moisturise at least once a day whether it be morning or evening. Feel your skin and hydrate appropriately.

Everything in your day to day life can have an effect on the hydration of your skin. The air-con in your office, the weather outside and even you yourself.

Using the right moisturiser for your skin type is very important as it can completely undo everything you've achieved with your cleansing and toning. So lets see how we prevent that from happening!

How to Prepare for Your Make-Up Part Two: Toners

Health & Beauty

Add a comment By Hayley

So now we know how to choose the right cleanser the next step in the CTM process is: Toning

Choosing the right Toner is just as important as choosing the right Cleanser. It all comes down to your skin type and everybody is different.

Not everybody feels the need to tone as they feel “clean” with only cleansing but don't be fooled you may feel clean but it doesn't mean you are.

Make sure your face is dry after cleansing using a clean towel and applying a patting motion and remember NO RUBBING!

So grab yourself some cotton pads and lets get started!

Toning is designed to remove the excess dirt and oils on the skin that cleansing misses and unclog your pores for a blemish free complexion so lets see what toners suit who best.

Acne prone skin
People with acne or spot prone skin will find that their face is usually very sensitive, especially after cleansing so using the right toner is very important. Ideally you would be looking for alcohol-free, hypoallergenic or a clarifying blemish solution so that you don't add any further irritation to skin that is already sensitive and broken.

Oily skin
There will always be skin types that no matter what type of cleanser you use you still come out the other side feeling like there is still some oil sitting on your skin. That's where a matifying toner comes in. They are still gentle on the skin whilst having a drying effect to get rid of the last of the oils on your skin.

Dry Skin
Since cleansing is a cleaning action there will always be some moisture loss and for those with dry sking that can prove to be quite an annoying problem. For dry skin types it is best to use a water based (re-hydrating) or alcohol free toner. Either of those two options should help you succeed in not drying out your face too much before getting to the moisturising stage.

Normal/All skin types
Even if you don't feel the need to tone you'd be surprised how much dirt is still sitting on your face after cleansing. Using a non specific toner will cover you for a quick wipe down with a cotton pad.

When toning make sure your cotton pad is appropriately moistened for application.

Then, starting a the centre of your face, use either small circular motions or or long wipes in an upwards motion ending at your forehead.

No need to press hard when doing either of these, if there is enough toner on your cotton pad it should pick up all the excess dirt in its path.

Turn the pad over when it starts looking dirty.

A good makeup is nothing without a good preparation, so in a three-part blog series, we're going to look at the key steps to getting your skin ready for a fabulous look.

Getting ready for a natural daytime makeup or a glamorous night-look all starts with the same preparation. You might have heard people say CTM, CTM, CTM and thought “what's that and why do I need to do it?”

Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize.

While each step is not necessary for everybody, it's important to use the correct product for your skin to get the best results for a clean, clear face ready for makeup application.
