#MightyApeVoucherHunt: The winners are...

By Che

Last week we launched a brand new competition that we haven't done before, the Mighty Ape Voucher Hunt!

Over the years our Easter Egg Hunts in which we hide Easter Eggs around the website have been very popular, so we thought, “what if we hid prizes out in the real world?” And thus the voucher hunt was born.

Being that this was the first time we've run a competition in this way we weren't sure what to expect. Would people be interested? Are our clues too hard? What if the vouchers get discovered before we launch the competition? What if they get lost?

We're glad to report that our fears were laid to rest. The competition was a success (mostly :P). Nine of the the ten vouchers which we hid around New Zealand were found. Some of them were found far earlier than we expected!

We've got some smart cookies out there – special mention to Mike Adair who took a wild guess on day one that the voucher was hidden at the Springfield Donut.

He drove for 45 minutes at night to see if he was correct. Incredible. We also heard that there were several teams of people out in force on Thursday night looking for the hidden voucher in Invercargill. Great stuff peeps!

One of the vouchers was unclaimed. We hid a voucher under a seat at the Centre of New Zealand in Nelson. We know that several people checked there on Thursday and Friday. We sent our own spy on Friday afternoon and they confirmed that the voucher was no longer where we placed it.

The package was attached using some heavy duty masking tape so it couldn't have just fallen off. We're unsure what happened with it. Was it found but the winner forgot to contact us? Did a possum take off with it? Stranger things have happened. It's not unheard of for first division Lotto winners to not claim their winnings.

Since the Nelson voucher was not claimed we will instead donate the value of the voucher to charity. We will be making a $100 donation to the Starship Foundation. The Starship Foundation is a social-profit organisation that raises funds so Starship Children's Health can better care for more than 120,000 young patient visits each year.

Would've been good to make all the locations wheelchair accessible.

Great decision by Mighty Ape to support Starship. While out searching in Nelson on Thursday night we found a backpack that had been stolen from a reps car. We returned it to Bowater Toyota who kindly gave us a $100 credit since we found the backpack but not the Mighty Ape voucher.
