Description

Set 25 years after the end of the Infinite War, SUPREME COMMANDER 2 starts with the galaxy reeling from the recent assassination of the newly elected president of the fragile Colonial Defense Coalition. The members of the Coalition - the United Earth Federation, The Illuminate and the Cybran Nation -blame each other, and the early rumbles of war can be heard throughout the galaxy.

  • Take on the role of three enigmatic commanders; former friends from each of the unique factions -- The United Earth Federation (UEF), The Illuminate and the Cybran Nation -- who get dragged into a conflict of galactic consequences
  • Explore a rich, character-driven single-player game which spans over 18 missions and delivers a new level of emotional connection to the RTS genre, or take the battle online for an exhilarating multi-player experience
  • Fight action-packed battles on a massive scale, waging war with enormous land, air and naval units in visually spectacular environments, brought to life by all-new rendering technology and a true evolution of RTS controls on both platforms
  • Upgrade and customize armies with new weapons and technology and deploy them instantly on the battlefield, turning a base-level tank into a high-powered, multi-barreled, anti-aircraft-sporting multipurpose battle unit
  • Deploy wild experimental war machines that can change the balance of power at any given moment.
  • Experience a streamlined economy and redesigned UI that put the focus squarely on combat, battlefield tactics and high-level strategic decision making, and give improved player feedback in Strategic Zoom view.

4 stars "Finally! An enjoyable strategy game for the 360!"
Metacritic rated this game 75% for xbox 360 - http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/supremecom... - I disagree with this.

Background
What are the good strategy games available on console? In my opinion - none. Compare the games available to that of a PC and you will find that you are in a drought. The console is notorious for cumbersome strategy gaming due to inferior controls (no mouse).

Expectation
I was looking for a strategy game which was easy to play, addictive, looked reasonable, was fun to play, had excellent gameplay mechanics, had decent multiplayer, campaign, and multiplayer bots (skirmish). Oh - also the achievements should not feel like a grind.

Is it easy to play?
Yes it is. Controls are intuitive and very quickly the left and right trigger start to feel like 'ctrl' and 'alt'. This is easily the best strategy game I've ever played on the 360 in terms of the control scheme.

Is it addictive?
Yes. I sincerely hope that there is a Supreme Commander 3 in the works.

Does it look reasonable?
I should point out that this is no gears of war 2, or mass effect 2 (this game is a 2 so it makes sense to compare it only to other "2's"). Nonetheless what it lacks in graphical detail it makes up for in rapid frame rate. This mutha is smooth even with units-a-plenty on the screen. My expectations for graphics were moderate to good and I was impressed.

Is it fun to play?
Yes - partly because you macromanage the battle. The game is fun because you feel involved in the big picture rather than spending ages making sure particular units are doing as they're told.

Are the gameplay mechanics excellent?
I feel I've already explained this.

Is the multiplayer decent?
I have nobody to play with (this is a review point in itself) - the multiplayer is RTS bog standard. However - why change a winning formula? I did manage to have a few games and it was definitely fun.

Is the campaign decent?
Unfortunately this game has a storyline - why? They haven't done a great job with it and it's easily the weakest point. Also you can't skip some cut scenes - gross. The campaign is essentially escalatingly tougher scenarios as one might anticipate.

What about the multiplayer bots?
Bog standard again and scalable. If anything they're exactly the right difficulty. Think of the fun had playing StarCraft 1 when it was 3 humans vs 5 CPU opponents.

Achievements?
They're not silly. I've been unlocking one per level which is the way I like it, plus I'm playing on hard. There are many achievements which should be quite enjoyable if you can find a friend to play with (destroy 10000 units). After nine days of thrashing it I completed the campaign on hard.

Summary and conclusions
Is it a good game among all games rather than just strategy games? No of course not. It cannot compete with the titans like Mass Effect 2, Gears of War 2, Forza 3, Borderlands. It is a Gem though, I think it's better than Just Cause 2. I think it's just as much fun as Darksiders,

This is a playable, enjoyable strategy game that looks good. It is easily the best strategy game on XBOX 360 (this is no major achievement mind you). If you were like me and played starcraft one well into the 2000's but no longer see the intelligence of a gaming PC then I recommend you give this a go.

3 stars "Lacking the speed of the PC version but still has the same BANG"
I've played both the PC and Xbox versions, although both are very good games I would have to recommend the PC version over the Xbox if you had a choice.

Both games have a very easy control system but the Xbox requires a little more concentration and doesn't allow for as much free roaming and overall map control as the PC version, It could be me and controllers but I find that mouse movement and the controls for the PC are superior to the Xbox.

Saying that though I would not discount the Xbox version as a bad game, it has all the same units and explosions and that's what counts, if you can nuke an entire army and see the thermal cloud puffing away from the smoking wreckages of your enemy then your having a good time xD

Haven't completed the campaign yet but close, difficulty is moderate and not as taxing as the PC.

Sound: 4
Graphics: 4
Gameplay: 3
Storyline: 3.5
Fun factor: 3

"An Xbox RTS-"
The controls in supreme comander 2 take a while to get used to and though they are no subsitute for a mouse and hotkeys, the way they are implementd does sort of work. Although sometimes ya cant move fast enough.

The game is entertaining, the experimentals are fun to build and let them destroy everything. But the game does lack strategy mainly cause the maps dont really let u use many sides to attack to do the old d-day distract and attack. And unlike a lot of rts knocking out there resources is generally only a short term problem at least on the campaigns.

This game has a few flaws but at the price it is now, its good value

4 stars "Different .. "
Controls take some time to get used to and the over all game play is lacking in excitement, would defiantly recommend Renting before buying as it is very different to other Xbox strategy games
