"Hours of arguments and excitement!"
The reason i say hours of excitement is because you can play 4 different instruments through a vast and reasonably long track of songs.
The reason i say arguments is because you will be fighting with mates of who gets to play what instrument and usually microphone is left over, surprise, surprise..

I really enjoy this game even though a can't play most songs on expert with any of the instruments. There is great difficulty settings and pretty cool character customisation available.

I do however get a bit sick of the same songs over and over and only a few of them to my liking. So make sure you like the songs in this game otherwise get a different music game that you do like the songs of because i find if the song is boring... so is playing it as I find myself falling asleep.

Another problem is if you feel like playing something new they have a robery scheme which makes you pay like $3 a song with only 2 or 3 free songs which are below average.

But never the less an enjoyable game!

"A great party game"
Definately worth it awesome setlist and alot more downloadable content with more comming (by october 20 2009 there will be 10 tracks added from Queen"FINALLY"!!!!)
game plays well.Better in my opinion than the GH series, I got bored after 2, have 3 though. After getting rock band I havent looked back and just last week gotten rock band 2 whick is even better. (google Rock Band 2 and search NZ websites and you might find someone local selling one)
But Rock Band 1 is a good start works with Guitar Hero Guitars whick means you dont need to buy the instrument pack if you dont to.

All up Rock Band is in my opinion the best music game franchise around.

"Freaking Awesome!"
Firstly I just came back from the USA where Rock Band has been out for a long time, and this is the game I played most. The people that I was staying with had ps3 and 360 and all popular games (Halo, Assassins Creed, Fall of Man, Tony Hawk, etc).

I have to say this is the reason I bought a 360 when I came back. I can't wait for this to come out!
The previous comment was right in saying that it's not a game really for one person to play, but in saying that it's still awesome fun to play!
For those of us who are musically handicapped this is a great opportunity to play all those songs we rocked out to and wished we could play!
The standard songs that come with the game are pretty good, but there are something like 200 songs available for download (including all Aerosmith and The Who hits due GH aerosmith and The Who being released in USA and Europe). The new in game store also makes it extremely easy to download new content, all you need to do is plug in the ethernet and sign in.
They also constantly adding new songs to download, there are 2 or 3 new songs added every week!

The difficulty levels on this are excellent as well, easy is very easy to play and expert is a challenge for even the most experienced player (I watched an episode of a Gene Simmons show, he couldn't even play his own Kiss songs one hard!)

I strongly reccomend buying Guitar Hero 3 if not already purchased as GH3 is great game in itself, but also has a guitar which will be essential if you want to have a full band (drums, guitar, bass, singer).

Definitely a must for any music enthusiast (gifted or not)!

"Enjoyable, but average..unless.."
I am writing a review of the UK version of Rock Band that I imported, along with a drum kit from USA.

Rather than reviewing the game, I'm going to point out a few things from a New Zealanders end, who has spent alot on getting this game.

I managed to get a friend to ship me the drums from the USA - they cost $70 USD, and I am unsure of shipping, as he paid for me. People say the drums make this game, and in a group game, you can see where it would be fun, but they are poorly designed, at best. For one, it feels odd, having the symbols placed lower than the two main drums.

The drums are damn loud. We cannot play till we mod our drum pads to be quieter.
We used our GH3 guitar, and we got a USB logitech mic for singing.
The singing is really good fun if you have always fancied yourself as a singer.
Guitaring in GH3 is more fun than in Rock Band, sadly...

So, It seems your getting four average games, for alot of money. We dont know the cost here in NZ, but I'm sure for the game and the 3 instruments that it will be quite a bit......and is it worth it?

HOWEVER - when we had a Guitar Hero party it was awesome. When you play singleplayer GH, you dont realise how awesome it is as a party game.

With Rock Band, you *know* that its going to be the party game to end all party games.

So, as a single player game, forget it. Its just not worth it, As a multiplayer game, it *will* rock your world. Literally!
