4 stars "GTA in the 1950s."

The easiest way to describe Mafia II is by saying it's like GTA IV, but…

  • it has a much shorter story. It's long enough, but I could have enjoyed it for longer.
  • it is very linear, you play the missions in a predetermined order, there is no illusion of choice whatsoever.
  • very little distraction. There's virtually nothing to do between missions.
  • it's much better looking. Everything from destructible environments to cloth animation and lighting, it's a very polished appearance.
  • a unique setting. The game takes place in the 1940s and 50s, so the style of cars and music suits, and is lovingly detailed.

I loved this game, I just wanted it to be longer, and for the city to feel more alive, like GTA IV.

4 stars "Great Game"

Great gameplay and graphics. The detail and the game music really sets the setting for this game. If you are into playing games similar to Grand Theft Auto or Red Fraction, then this is the game for you.

5 stars "A match? There is none"

The moment you step into the game there is no mistaking that it is on a level of its own.
Starting off with a war like tutorial the game gets you used to the fighting style right off the bat, mixed with gun fire and boxing this game has a lot to offer in just the basics.
Then moving on from that the customization of the vehicles in this game is amazing as you could find yourself only doing missions and other money making opportunities just to do up your vehicles but be weary the snow makes for interesting handling.
Other than that the story is well told and pulls you into the drama and danger of living the Mafia life. Some may find the game short and some may find it long and that all depends on how you play the game in my personal opinion this is in the top 3 games I have played in my life.

2 stars "An exceedingly bland experience. "

2K should have dropped any open-world pretense they envisioned for this game. The narrowly focused campaign is divided into 15 chapters, offering little more than out dated 3rd person shooter mechanics, a weak story littered with transparent plot twists and a unpopulated world, with nothing left to do once you've begrudgingly finished the story.
Campaign was about 10 hours on hard and the achievements are relatively easy. Pick it up on the cheap.

Although the story is quite short, there is loads to do in this awesome game. My favourite this is the bullet impact...... 5*

4 stars "good,but."

could do with something newer.basically just grand theft auto after the war, good enough if you like those sort of spin offs in different envirnments but it just seemed a little bit too simmilar for my liking.
having shoot outs with the cops is still fun though.

4 stars "Great game... But"

The game is awesome! its completely captivating, addictive and has a great story. The characters are fantastic, didnt find myself getting annoyed with any of them which is very rare for me. With visuals and a control system very similar to GTA and Red Dead Redemption the game is easy to pick up and play. It all works smoothly which is why I guess they went with a familiar setup that is tried and true.

This game only has a few let downs, one that was a pet peev of mine was targeting or aiming when the enemies are close (within 5–10m). You can guarantee you will die if the enemy is this close, as aiming at this range is infuriating. The other one was kind of a major, the main story is about 8 or 9 hours long. Easily completed within a night and day of hirage. There are a couple of side things you can do but nothing to keep you interested for more than an hour. I really hope they make some nice downloadable content which im pretty sure they will because there is no post game play to look forward to.

3 stars "Nice try."

From the moment I downloaded the demo I knew that this would be a great game. Mafia 2 looks amazing, plays nicely and has an amazing storyline. Unfortunately this is all held back by the playing style most people, including me, even me, expect from a sandbox style game and environment. Comparing this game to this year's Red Dead Redemption I have found this game to be linear. Not so much linear like Call of Duty where you are expected to follow one path, but in the sense that there are no side missions and the only thing for you to do in the city is the main story. Having a large game world, we expect there to be something else out there but instead 2K have filled it with a boring 40/50s city. The only reason you would want explore would be to make money at the car delivery area, money to spent on clothes and tuning cars.

Now that the cons are over we can focus on the good. 2K have pieced together an amazing story line that makes you want to continue through the story. The characters are lovely and believable too. The main character, Vito, is your classic Momma's boy who strays from the line of the innocent man into a life of crime. The visuals in this game are pretty nice too, a few problems that should be patched out soon but other than that it is lovely.

To conclude I think Mafia is worth a play through. The story line is great and you feel like you are actually a criminal. The small issues will not be enough to hold you back from playing through.

5 stars "Slightly addicting"

Hello to all.
I hired mafia 2 from video ezy on the 24/8/2010 to my surprise.
The game starts off cinematic (like normal). I noticed that the facial graphics are the best I have ever seen to date. Have a look for yourself!
Mafia is a fun all round game, personally I enjoy picking locks of cars. GTA has got owned twice this year, once by red dead redemption, and once again by mafia 2. The classic mafia was nothing to expand on. However, 2k games have produced an awesome title. Play it for yourself to experience the ‘old school’ criminal world!
5 stars – just look at their faces! also very addictive

Mafia II is listed for release later this year and has caused many fans anger that after 8 years in the making it has been postponed again. But its has also been confirmed that this will be the last delay as the game will release around august to october!
