"Pandemic Lacks Imagination with Battlefront Clone"
In late 2005 / early 2006 our original Xbox consoles were blessed with the release of a truly epic, large scale action title; Star Wars Battlefront II. Like its predecessor, I spent hours and hours playing this little gem, exploring the strengths of each character class and trying out different tactics on an impressively diverse map environment. This game was one of a kind and stood out as one of the greater FPS titles of the time. But that was three years ago.
Here we are in 2009 and the FPS experience is a little more sophisticated now. Not only can we dispatch our enemies with a variety of weapons, but we can also have an effect on our environment by blowing up structures or destroying trees and shaping the battle the way we want to play, we can personalise our characters kit, clothing and even custom face imagery via the Xbox Live Camera and we can even upgrade our standard aresenal with add-ons, gadgets and devices to give a sense of achievement for all our hard work. All these possiblilites seem to have escaped the developers of LOTR Conquest, who have effectively taken a game that's three years old, stripped it, gave it better graphics, and put a different face on it.
If you played the Battlefront series and think you would enjoy a bit of the same ol' same ol', then think again. I can guarantee an hour into it you'll be so overwhelmed with deja vu you'll bore quite quickly. If you didn't play Battlefront II, then I suggest buying that on Xbox and playing it instead of forking out your hard earned money on what is quite basically a "re-hash to get cash" title that degrades the proud LOTR franchise so much it's almost a sin.
