4 stars "As good as the hype... but.."

This game is worthy of all the hype surrounding it, very tight single play, great addition with spec opps section, same solid multiplay as the original… but.. I hesitate to find flaw but this needs to be said… Lagg!! From a kiwi perspective this was a huge issue in the first instalment, perhaps the only real issue with it. There was alot of talk about how they were going to fix it so you only play on good severs (peer to peer), but based on the first days play, there is still far to many single bar connections, with death cam showing just how much of a disavantage it gives you ! Maybe in time they will improve that, i certainly hope so… I've the fastest broadband i can get locally but even with that I ended up putting Cod4 due to lagg.

5 stars "Pure FPS Awesomeness"

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the prequel to the original FPS Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (obviously). But don't panic, MW2 is just as good as it predecessor, maybe even better (in some aspects). MW2's story mode is similar to CoD4's in many aspects but the main difference is that it is a lot shorter, but this is not a bad thing because MW2 makes up for this by packing more thrills into its moderately short mode then CoD did. MW2 also contains a mode called Spec Ops which can be conquered either by yourself or with a friend. Spec Ops put simply is a series of 1 – 2 player objectives missions that are not based on a set storyline. Spec Ops missions range from racing down a snowy mountain in a snowmobile to protecting a specific position until you run out of enemies. The main feature of MW2 is the multiplayer mode. MW2's multiplayer is more expansive then CoD4's. In MW2 you get more guns, maps, perks and upgrades then you can get your head around. To be put lightly MW2 is easy to play but hard to master and you'll sure have a hell of a time playing it. Happy Camping ;)

5 stars "Must Buy"

I have no qualms anointing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as game of the year right now. It is as close to perfection in gaming as current console technology can offer. The polish and production value is top notch and unrivaled. Admiring the attention to detail and playing through the myriad of modes, all of which are strong, will have you playing for months. The campaign can be frustrating, but all that melts away from enjoyment. Modern Warfare is a “must buy” game no matter how you look at it.

5 stars "Great First person shooter, Awesomely fast framerate!"

At first I was against getting the game because im in love with Halo3. As the entered my console I started to regret buying MW2, but as soon as the game loaded I fell in love.

The frame rate is unreal making the gameplay incredibly smooth. The multiplayer has turned to the matchmaking system used in Gears of War and Halo with the plus side of finding quick games but the downside of finding games with people from other countries causing a little bit of lag. The Campaign starts off with a quick easy session to learn the controls and continues through with different stories that all link up into one. The effects are amazing, you feel like your in the action and it extorts human curiousity causing desire to go explore the map to see if you can get into little hiding spots. In this war game you get a chance to use many different weapons and vehicles such as a snowmobile.

If your new to First person shooter games I would recommend This game, if you've played First person shooter games and enjoy them id recommend this game. If you are after achievement and a bit of multiplayer fun I would recommend this game.

5 stars "Totally awesome FPS."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is best FPS that has come onto the xbox in the past year. The main campaign though is a bit short but the online and special ops is were countless hours can be easily eaten up. The whole package of gameplay and graphics is a total sensory overload, especially when you are looking down the sniper scope waiting for the other shooter to poke his head out and BANG some cheeky enemy shooter has snuck up and decided to unload a few rounds into you.

So if you are wanting a solid FPS with great graphics and gameplay, and tons of hours of gameplay then Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a most for you.

5 stars "Best Multiplayer shoot em up around"

Modern Warfare 2 has everything any lover of 1st person shooters wants – a solo/co-op campaign with a solid story and amazing gameplay; various difficulty levels to choose from; and probably the best xbox live game since Halo.

The game also hosts a set of unlockable challenges in the Special Ops mode which further enhances the length of time in which you won't be able to put this game away.

It has it all from sniper/defensive scenarios, vehicle and ATV assaults/races, stretegic assaults, to straight killing sprees. You won't get tired of this game – at least until the next one comes out! A must have for any xbox360 fan with a good taste for games.

5 stars "Best...Game...EVERRR!!!"

This game has great multiplayer and singleplayer sides to it, the Multiplayer is extremely amazing, High
detail and a huge range of people.. which ofcourse leads to no huge queues waiting for people. The singleplayer side to it is equally as amazing, The story may be abit short… But the graphics, weapons, extremely exhilarating stages make single player a great thing to do. I reccomend this game to ANYONE that likes any game at all. As the title says, BEST GAME EVER!

5 stars "Possibly the best game out this year!"

When I played this I actually compared it to CoD4, not CoD5 which came out more recently, and if you have played both of those, don't compare it to CoD5.
The single player was great, when you get hit it now shows blood droplets on the screen instead of just red outside, this can be a problem as it can blind you when you're pretty much dead, aside from that its a lot of fun. As usual you have to put a little planning into your attack at some points, or on the harder difficulties, all attacks.
The Campaign was, in my opinion, very interesting, had a good story, put you into some really great situations. There are new weapons so you wont get bored, but other than that the game play is more or less the same, but, knifing has been made a little easier, its no longer as buggy as it was in CoD4 and 5. Yes, it is now possible to have an over 50% knifing success on a moveing target! There isn't that much to say about the single player, well theres alot, but I have no idea how to describe it, you stop playing for the achievement points, and for fun, and start playing to find out what happens next, the story isn't forgotten in a storm of action.
As for multiplayer, this is what really counts in my books. As I said before, knifing is now alot better, there are new perks, some of the disliked perks were removed, and kill streak rewards are customizable, and you can now pick a death streak, if you die a number of times without getting a kill your death streak is activated, rewarding you with extra health, more ammo or drop a live grenade when killed. The weapons are different to CoD4, some new ones, and some old ones of course, and new attachments, so now you can have a heartbeat detector attachment, or perhaps a silencer for your sniper, the possibilities may seem a little much at first, but you soon get the hang of it and really start to enjoy it. Not to mention, the best part of all, when you choose a game type, it will go for the fastest connection every time, starting arround 60ms and working its way up to get you the fastest connection.

I would recomend this to anyone who like first person shooters, and to anyone who doesn't, and to just about anyone else…

I say 10/10

5 stars "best FPS ever"

I am from New Zealand and I love MW2. The single player campaign is exciting and very cinematic. Special ops is a great feature in MW2. My favourite part of MW2 is the multiplayer. The multiplayer maps are great and the game types are also great. My favourite maps are afghan and terminal. Overall MW2 is a excellent game. The only problem with MW2 is the lag I hope they fix it.

as we all know the release of modern warfare 2 was hyped up and also had great competition with assasins creed 2 and L4D2 being released in the same week even with that competition i believe that modern warfare is still a great game with the return of old friends and new kinds of game types (spec ops) the only problem with it is i believe that they ended it to soon we know wait with baited breath to see if our much loved captain “soap” lives to fight another die

5 stars "Excellent Successor To COD 4"

This is the next step in FPS gaming, crystal clear graphics, superb sound and flawless controls makes this game a must have for fans of the Call of Duty franchise or FPS fans. Single player campaign is a bit short and the storyline is slightly flawed but this is quickly made up for by not only the gameplay but the multplayer levels and the new spec ops levels which are awesome for co-op and single player action.

4 stars "Single player too short!!!"

This game has a stunning multiplayer and spec ops was a really great addition. But what happened with the campaign– It took me 5 hours to complete on my first play and every time I play the campaign the time it takes me to finish gets shorter.
Hope this is fixed in Modern Warfare 3.

5 stars "10 out of 10. "

I bought this game for a friend recently, and I own it (normal and hardened editions I have). The game is excellent, despite the Infinity Ward v. Activision legal issues lately. Multiplayer as you'd expect from Call of Duty is addictive, there are things in multiplayer online that are damn annoying: noobs, 12 year olds running around with commando knife perk, lag, bad hosts, revenge killers but other than that its great.
Single player is all good but as they say ‘come for the single player, stay for the multiplayer’.

5 stars "Brilliant Product"

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the second installement to the Modern Warfare games, the player takes on the role of Sergeant Gary ‘Roach’ Sanderson as you fight to stop the Russian Nationalist terrorists.

This game is 100% magic. I did not and will not ever regret purchasing this game. The game is a thrilling, exciting, edge-of-your-seat action game. It is definitely worth buying and a must for all Call of Duty fans wishing to get the full Call of Duty experience.

5 stars "Great Game and Multiplayer"

This was a great game to play in the campaign and I really enjoyed that, but the best bit had to be multiplayer.

Although I have a one bar connection and lag sometimes I really enjoyed the interaction with other people. It was a whole lot more fun than the campaign.

The special ops were great but you have to play multiplayer to really enjoy them and get 3stars in each -unless your very good, unlike me.

Overall a great game, generally the best game I have played.

This was my first war game i've bought and loved it! Only let down was that single player was quite short but to add on to that I found out that the multiplayer option was the main part of the game. I'd highly recomend this to any War game fan or Action game fan!!

3 stars "Could be longer"

This game is amazing. It really is like being in a war movie. Very cool. Also that controversial bit that everyone says is controversial, it is very in context. The “people” you are shooting are still clearly just computer generated and that's that. You'd have to be quite immature to think otherwise, which is why this game is R18.

My real criticism is that this game is a little short. Nothing that's $150 should have only an 8 hour campaign, regardless of how good the multiplayer is. However I bought this game when it was on special from this site, and it was worth it. It has replay value simply because it's sensory overload the first time round, second time round I could be a bit more stealthy, take in the sites some more, and the multiplayer is pretty kick ass.

Also if you're wondering about the co-op play, it is a whole lot of “mini” missions which have different goals, examples: race, sniper, storm or whatever. There is also a fair few of them, and they are quite a lot of fun. So good value if you like split screen as well.

All up, if you pay the right price, this game will be worth it. If I'd paid $150 I'd feel a bit ripped off though because of the shortish campaign.

4 stars "Great Multiplayer But Short Campaign"

Modern Warfare 2 is a great sequel to Modern Warfare. The campaign is exhilarating but found it very short. I completed it around 5 hours.

The multiplayer and spec ops are the best part of MW2. The custom classes are great and you can customize your character with different weapons, kill streak options and new perks.

The only problem I had with the multiplayer is getting into a game. It takes a while to get in but it is worth it.

Overall, I give this game 4/5.

"Quit after one hour."

I enjoyed this game for the first couple of missions. I didn't really like playing as different characters, first an American private in Afghanistan, then a British commando in Russia, but it was just so cool it was hard not to like it. Though most of the time I didn't really know what was going on. The briefings are handled in cutscenes that quickly give you a vague overview of the situation. My trouble is sometimes things don't sink in the first time I hear them (I know I need to work on my listening skills), and there is no way to go back and replay the briefing. If you check your objective during the mission it will just say “Follow Capt. Whatshisname.” Or something simplistic like that. An overview of the mission, or a way to replay the briefing would have been a big help.

I also didn't like the big blue X reload prompt appearing right in the middle of the screen prompting me to reload my weapon. I know when I need to reload my weapon, thanks very much. I can see the little counter thingie right there. I really don't understand why designers insist on having some immersion breaking prompt constantly popping up on the screen. I mean what sort of retards are they making these games for that need to be constantly reminded that X reloads your gun, and A lets you mantle over obstacles and so on? At least give us the option to turn them off.

But despite these niggles I was really enjoying the game until I came to the third mission. I'm chasing some guy through a shanty town, and what seem like hundreds of militiamen are pouring out of the woodwork shooting at me. Grenades seem to be falling from the sky like rain, bullets are hitting me constantly and I'm literally dying every few seconds. I realise this particular series of games is all about intense, high stress combat but I think they might have taken it a bit too far with this. I tried, and tried and tried but I just kept getting killed. This was not fun for me… at all. I could have persevered I suppose, but I realised if this is what it's like on the third mission, then what are the later missions going to be like? So I quit.

Everything else about the game was awesome though.

Return to today's war front with the second chapter in the Modern Warfare series. Modern Warfare 2 continues the gripping and heart-racing action as players face off against a new threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse. Playing as as Sgt. Gary “Roach” Sanderson, your international squad of elite soldiers battle through harrowing combat scenarios that range from snowy mountaintops in Siberia to the crowded streets of Rio de Janiero, Brazil and beyond, facing a terrorist force hellbent on redefining the boundary lines of today's modern warfare. Players can face the threat alone or with other players in cooperative Spec Ops mode. For even more intense combat, take up arms against online foes in enhanced death match warfare on a host of Modern Warfare 2 maps. modern warfare 2 is awesome

This game by far and away beats the rest of the COD games that have been released so far. the multiplayer mode is so much better, cooler graphics make for a quick load time and a fun game. the only downside is trying to get host or finding a host fro nz or aus, were stuck playing yellow bar(50% good connection) with the yanks who have a full green bar, but as good kiwis go we still wipe the floor with them. all in all i say this game is the best gae that has been released this year and it will take alot for this gae to be beaten.

No, this is the best game of 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and so on. As a huge COD fan, I am absolutely gobsmacked. Questions such as, ‘how can you top Modern Warfare 1’? has been answered by Modern Warfare 2. This has reached a new level in gaming that the rest of the world will now have to attempt to reach if they are to succeed. The level of immersion is scarily good, the gameplay is sheer bliss. Yes, this is a must own for any gamer, but I am sure you already know that. Don't just get the standard edition. The Hardened or Prestige edition have the steel cover case which is the most impressive case for a game to date.

5 stars "OH YES!!!"

Ok, I have been looking forward to this since it was announced.

They have done a real good job on the marketing side of things, slowly drip feeding the community, building it up. Theres a whole load of “leaked” videos on the internet now of multiplayer games and even a complete video of one of the missions in the single player game.

A little disappointed that the story campaign wont be co-op but the extra ‘Spec-Ops’ missions (in the game like Nazi Zombies was for World at War) is 2 player co-op so that should keep most co-op fans entertained. Apparently these spec ops missions are almost as long as the campaign any how.

Hopefully a few things have been tweaked, like the unlimited number of enemy that keep spawning and the grenade bashing you got in COD4 when playing on Veteran, and the spawning for multiplayer has been improved.

The Frame rates still look very impressive with 60fps for Xbox 360, and some of the maps look pretty good.

As for the Multiplayer, that will be as addictive as ever, prepared for more sleepless weekends. Hopefully we get a few Double XP weeks.

One thing that is a little troubling is the fact they haven't put in the game a Local Search function for multiplayer lobbies. They say they have an auto function that will connect you to a host that best suites your connection?? WTF?? whats wrong with they way World at War searched? Almost always got a green connection on there.

Enough bitching, I think this will be the Top game for 2009 and most likely people will be playing this for a while to come, as people are still playing COD4 now 2 years after its release!!

I have taken the week off work that this is released so will be thrashing it hard once it arrives!! See you Out there!!!

With The New Release of Modern warfare 2, Infinity Ward will be implementing their new multilayer and Co-operative layout.

One of The Major advantages as a PC Gamer is being able to scroll through a server list looking for their favorite modded server.
Dedicated Servers as we know it, will be replaced by a new concept called ‘IW-Net’. IW-net has a similar layout to the one implemented by Left 4 Dead all the matchmaking will be preformed by IW-Net and hosting will be provided by IW-Net also.
This move is an effort to provide smoother gaming experience, aid In-experienced players and also to help counter Piracy.

With the promise that Modern Warfare 2 will provide a new Co-operative mode, smoother game-play, private matches, customizable perks, Valve Anti-Cheat support, rumored integration into steam and additional features.
Also following the colossal game that was CoD4, its a no brainer.

GO BUY THIS GAME!

NOW!

5 stars "MUST BUY!"

Modern Warfare 2 looks excellent.
I've played all of the COD games and loved each in their own little ways, and when it came time to bring out Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 2, I couldn't be happier. I loved how the first Modern Warfare was set, well, ‘now’, in modern times, and I just loved how the gameplay and campaign rolled out.
With Modern Warfare 2, the graphics seem to have had a little bit of a push through the washing machine, if I may say so, and have come out sparkling clean.
In relation to the multiplayer side of things, COD MW2 doesn't just come with more in-game ‘kill-streak perks’, but they are customizable, we see in one of the latest videos released, that the player actually takes control of the AC130 Spectre gunship's cannons to wreak havoc on the map below. Multiplayer looks brilliant, and as it should, COD MW had excellent multiplayer, and one that people will continue to play for many years. I suspect that Modern Warfare 2 however, will bring not just the gamers from the first, but new players too, bringing people together to get themselves a nice bunch of kills and being part of a beautiful and stunning looking game.
From what I've seen, the campaign looks awesome, and pretty intense as usual, packed full of all the cool moves and physics, you can really appreciate the inner workings of the game when we see Soap McTavish remove an enemy from his snow mobile with a swing of an ice-pick.
I would imagine that the game has great replay-ability, involving both campaign and multiplayer, fun to play, great tactical game, awesome-looking and an all-round excellent game for all gamers.

MUST BUY FOR 2009 ONWARDS!
