The Robert De Niro Collection (3 Disc Set)
Ronin:
The Cold War may be over, but a new world order keeps a group of covert mercenaries employed by the highest bidder. These operatives, known as “Ronin,” are assembled in France by a mysterious client for a seemingly routine mission: steal a top-secret briefcase. But the simple task soon proves explosive as other underworld organizations vie for the same prize, and to get the job done, the members of Ronin must do something they've never done before – trust each other!
Critic Reviews:
- " It's like watching the revival of a forgotten art form; the fact that it's done with a minimum of special effects makes it all the more stirring. " – Anthony Lane
- " A pure action flick. " – Richard Propes
- " More fruitful by far to take the auteurist view and say that for Frankenheimer, Ronin is surrender. " – Walter Chaw
Raging Bull:
Loosely based on the life and career of boxer Jake LaMotta, Raging Bull focuses on Jake's rage and violence that makes him virtually unstoppable in the ring. The same anger also drives Jake to beat his wife and his brother Joey, and sends Jake down a self-destructive spiral of paranoia and rage.
Critic Reviews:
- " Robert De Niro's performance as Jake La Motta is certainly worthy of the Academy Award he won for it. He captures the type of character someone would have to be in order to be a champion boxer. " – Sarah Brinks
- " For a film about violence, it's incredible that boxing remains at second sight. The life of Jake La Motta was a turbulent one, and De Niro literally becomes him. Visually stunning. " – Victor Pineyro
- " The complete absence of redeeming qualities during a relentless downward spiral hinders it from being wholeheartedly enjoyable. " – Mike Massie
Hide And Seek:
Robert De Niro is David Callaway and Dakota Fanning is his nine-year old daughter, Emily. Both are trying to recover from the recent death of their wife/mother, but Emily has begun to deal with the trauma in her own special way – she has invented an imaginary friend named Charlie. Nothing unusual about that – until “Charlie” starts to become all too real and Emily begins to do some bizarre and frightening things…
