The two-disc compilation The Essential Early Recordings brings together many of the best tracks by trumpeter/arranger/composer Quincy Jones during the ‘50s and '60s. These were recorded during the formative part of Jones’ career (before he transformed into a legendary pop producer) when he was writing swinging, bop-oriented arrangements for both large and small ensembles. These superb recordings are a must-hear for fans of straight-ahead jazz.
