"Oh my god..."
5 stars"

There is no number or word that describes this games depth…you could play this game for your whole life and you still wouldn't be done!

Oblivion is an epic RPG that will please any fan of the genre and there are countless items to be found, missions and customizable options…

Replay value is huge as you can make a new class for your next character and start the journey again. At least 250hrs here. And the 2 expansion packs add even more value…honestly it's the biggest and longest game ever.

Graphics are great, sometimes a little weak on some creatures but close quarters combat looks exceptional along with the magic.

If your a beginner to RPG's, I suggest Fallout 3 as its shorter but more enjoyable. For RPG fans, this is a must – Runescape, World of Warcraft does not compare to this game.

One downside is that there's no online but there's so much to do that you probably won't care.

"Breath taking rpg!"
5 stars"

This is one of the best rpgs out at the moment. considering it is a couple of years old. i still have the craving to pull it out of my stash of shoot em ups to give it ago… recomended for all fans of the genre!

the story is great, the overal depth of play is brilliant ( i have played for almost 50 hours and still have tons of side quests to do after just finishing the main quest for the guild and stuff)

Unlike what another comment has said this game does have more than 20 enemys. hundreds of spells and items and to top that off you can even make your own spells, weopons and potions (you can even make poison which can be quite amuzing when you put it into a persons pocket when you are pick poketing)

Highly recommended

"Insane"
5 stars"

I hate elves. The one thing I learnt from Oblivion is that elves are the most annoying bastards you'll ever learn to hate. Maybe it's their voice, I don't know, but I truly hate them.

Oblivion is Bethesda's first game into the new era and it was a brilliant one. The graphics are really quite amazing and the quests are fun and varied. The only thing that gets tiring after awhile is the horrible combat system (you learn that it really is quite bad behind all the pretty swordplay), the hard to aim magic and bow (only for console version though) and just the annoyance of hearing like ten people with the same voice in any city in Oblivion. Apart from that, it's great!

I'm not really sure why it's such a great game, it just… is? The story I never went through because I heard you had to go through like forty Oblivion Gates and that sounded mighty repetitive but from what I've heard, it's worth it for the rest of the story. Sneaking round is always fun and so is stealing and lock picking. Jumping on roofs is always fun. Ummm, it's cool that depending on what skills you use, they'll level up themselves accordingly. You can parade around in the armour the guards wear, not that it does anything. Actually I'm really not sure why this game is so good…

But some thing's that annoyed me were things like how the guards are telepathic and instantly know when you commit a crime. Hmmm anyway if you haven't experienced this game it's well worth the money. It's a wide sprawling world full of adventure and quests and the game of year edition only adds more!

"Rather average..."
3 stars"

I bought this game when I forst got my PS3, and spent quite a few hours playing it. I was a fan of FF7 on PSone, Fable on Xbox, and was hoping for something equally epic and engaging. While it seemed that Oblivion has a reasonably interesting story, I found the whole experience a bit of a let down.

Graphics-wise, the scenery looks great, but the character and menu graphics are really lacking for a new generation console game. PS3 is capable of so much more! The faces were especially lame – the storyline is mostly delivered by staring straight at to these emotionless, badly animated talking heads, which quickly became rather boring. There are extensive options to customise your character, but the skin always looked badly stretched, and the skin colouring is quite rough. I thought some PS2 game graphics were better!

They tried to make it a bit more interesting by having a bunch of different ‘races’ to choose from for your character, including elves, orcs, and lizard-people, but really these just seemed like a different head on the same body. They all speak wthe same too, which is pretty uninventive. Personally, lizard-people were a bit of a turn-off for me… didn't really seem to fit in the game / genre properly.

It sort of seems like they made the massive world, then hard a hard time filling it up. Especially in Oblivion, I was wandering around for hours (doesn't appear to be any way to move very quickly without a horse – can't run) battling the same creature over and over again. After about 8 hours of gameplay, I think I encountered fewer than 8 types of enemy. Everything appears far too stretched-out, so without a walkthrough guiding you directly to where you need to go, you'll spend days wandering around massive places at a weak level, with not a lot to do.

I'm usually a bit of a sucker for time wasting RPGs, but this just didn't do it for me. Time wasting games are only fun if you don't feel like that's all you're doing.

"The best game I have ever played - and that is saying something"
5 stars"

I am not your average gamer. I am not male and I am not in my teens. I am a 40 something mother of 2 sons, who both enjoy gaming.

I first discovered gaming as a teenager in the early 80s. At school, during the lunch hour, a game called Translvaynia. A kind of Dungeons and Dragons for the computer, no aninmations, just pixelated still white and black pictures with text under them explaining the situation, you had to tell the computer what you wanted to do in just 2 words, eg ‘take bullet’, ‘shoot warewolf’, kind of like those Twist a Plot books you used to get. The computer was the size of a beer fridge and was as slow as anything, but that is all that was around when I discovered games.

Since I had my kids we went through various games on the computer – Hexen, Doom (gosh they were good but the graphics were seriously bad), then the consoles – Crash on PS1, Spyro in the PS2, The Sims 1 and 2. All were pretty good. Then came the PS3 with Drakes Fortune which I loved until the zombies showed up. On researching the top 10 games for PS3 I discovered Oblivion.

I LOVED it from the very minute I turned it on. Naturally I had to be a female character, but she was pretty cool, a Wood Elf with plenty of skills. I played this game till midnight every night for months, (I even recorded Greys and Desperate Housewives to watch later so I could play Oblivion instead.)

I love the game because you don't run round shooting everyone (instead you kill them with your sword or magic powers but always in self defence, UNLESS you are in the Dark Brotherhood – a quest I hate and don't do because you don't have to) and it is in a very lovely world with animals running round and changing weather with night and day.

I love how it is open ended and you can play the game in any order you like and go anywher you like. The first time I played the main quest first which meant I closed all the Oblivion gates early on which was a shame because you get some good stuff in Oblivion. I would recommend playing the side quests first such as the Guild quests so you level up and thus get better stuff from chests and better stones from clising Oblivion Gates – the higher your level the better the stone and the better you can use it to your advantage to make magical weapons or enchanted items. And I have read there are as many as 60 gates in Oblivion, and they aren't always in the same place for each new game you play. But it your choice, do the main quest first and close only the ones you have to, then you won't have to worry about running into them on your travels around the world.

A tip: The only thing I hated was when I got bitten by a vampire I didn't notice the message that I had contracted the vampire disease and failed to use my cure disease potion. If you want to avoid having to do the ‘cure vapirism’ quest which literally take hours then keep an eye on your active effects especially when you have been around vampires. Also if you are kicked out of the Mages Guild for stealing then it takes hours to find the required flowers that you have to find as redemption for your crime so try to avoid that. I usually save my game twice, and alternate each save between the 2 saves so if I stuff my game up I can go back to the alternate save point.

The game has over 150 hours of game play, at an hour or so a day that is 3 – 6 months of game play – well worth it and if you are like me you will want to play it all over again.

I LOVE this game and would recommend it to everyone, especially people who don't like those shoot em up games, driving games or war games. This game puts you in another time in another world with beautiful scenery and hundreds of quests – I think it is a game that older people will also enjoy, also women.

There are only 5 stars to rate here, I'd like to give it 10 if I could.

Have fun

"Meh."
2 stars"

I don't see what all the hype about this game is about. The graphics were mediocre and I was very unsure of what to do throughout the game. It was sort of like “your the chosen one go to this gate, turn it off and then…” I was stumped. I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to be doing after shutting off the first oblivion gate. Also, of the short part of storyline I managed to complete, it seems it was all being delivered to the player through emotionless faces all talking in the same monotonous voice.

I also didn't understand how to level up, I was wandering around for ages at level 2 and about the only thing I could kill was wolves and rats. everything else killed me in one shot.

The way you aim magic and archer attacks is very hard to use. it seemed the crosshairs either stayed still or jumped 3–4 cm at a time.

For those looking for an RPG game to play I strongly recommend Fallout:3 over this

Very fun single player game. This game caught my attention quite well, while playing it I seem too lose track of time. Fun way to make time speed by. I found that once i finished the game I could still continue, which was a really good plus for me, I enjoy it when my hard work can be used for enjoyment afterwards. 5 stars in my books!!!

"Arguably the best RPG of all time."
5 stars"

Oblivion may be a little old, but in terms of sheer content, it's still the king of role playing games. Set in an enormous game world full to the brim with interesting characters, dungeons, caves, towns, and landscapes, Oblivion is a marvel of modern gaming.

Don't worry if you haven't played any prior Elder Scrolls games, it won't matter as each game is basically a standalone title.

There's a plethora of different ways you can sculpt your character, from race, appearance, skills, attributes. And when you combine that with hundreds of different armour types, hundreds of different weapon types, thousands of different spells, and numerous enemies to use them on, you will soon realise that Oblivion is a massively large, albeit slightly overwhelming at first, world.

The game has a great main story, but even if you're not interested in it, there are literally hundreds of other quests to embark on. With all this content, you will easily get over 100 hours game play out of Oblivion. And with this game of the year edition featuring both the Knights of the Nine expansion and the Shivering Isles expansion, expect to easily add an additional 50 hours to your play time. And if you want to create a different type of character and replay the quests differently… Well let's just say you may be playing Oblivion for a very very long time.

It may not have a multiplayer component, but Oblivion is still the best value for money title on the PS3. And not only that, it's easily one of the best games ever made.

"WOW eat my dust!!!"

The massive open world screams explore. This is the RPG for consoles, the GOTY edition gives you all the expansions and hours more of fun.

"a must buy"
4 stars"

Man this game is one of the best rpgs ever made.Almost every thing about oblivion rocks the quests are neat and deep the creatures are cool and some are creepy plus there are very very smart, exploring is cool and there is so much content that you can play it for over 200 hours!The guilds are neat the are the fighters guild and the mages guild the thieves guild and the dark brother hood. The fighters guild is kinda boring but the mages thieves and dark brother hood are all neat and kinda exciting. The graphics are cool but they look the same almost ever where plus i hate the way creatures level up with you at one point they are so easy and at another there are almost impossible to kill. But other then that i think this is the best RPG this generation and one of the greatest game ever made so BUY THIS GAME ALL RPG FANS!!!!!!!!!!

No words can describe the depth the creators of Oblivion have taken to create this game. No detail has been left out, massive maps and dungeons to explore, find treasure and join guilds!
