Originally released on Island in 1976, “Super Ape” is one of the standout dub albums to come out of Lee Perry's Black Ark studio. Including the talents of musicians such as Boris Gardiner (bass), Mickey Boo Richards (drums), Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith (guitar), Bobby Ellis and Vin Gordon (horns), and Perry's genius work on the mixing desk, the album is a classic piece of 70s roots dub. As with his productions for Max Romeo and The Congos from the same era, “Super Ape” is another example of Lee Perry's amazing layered sound, astonishingly created by overdubbing on a four track tape machine! Includes classics like “Black Vest” (a dub of Romeo's “War In A Babylon”), “Zion's Blood”, “Croaking Lizard” and “Underground”.
